GeneralGao (2627), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 1, 2007 750 ml bottle. Poured a clear orange color. The head was white and fairly delicate, but retained it’s height well for several minutes and left some lace on the glass. The aroma was a pleasant mix of fruit and hops. Almost like a flower blossom at times, but with that special added funk of the Brettanomyces. It was delicately sweet, yet tart on the tongue. It was fairly effervescent without being too bubbly. The fruit, funk, malt, and hops in the flavor worked well together. Like a combination of subdued melon, rose hips, sweetened lime tart, and honey. There was also an occasional hint of alcohol that reminded me of white wine. Refreshing like a dry champaign, but slightly sweet and and fuller bodied. Great beer.
PhillyBeer2112 (1887), Orange Park, Florida, USA Nov 27, 2008 Big nose that presented alot of hops at first, resinous as the bottle said, and very floral. A bretty side to became apparent later. Huge resiny hop flavors, malts give it full body, esp for a belgian ale. Finish is very bitter. Brett flavors take awhile to become known. I had this with Thanksgiving dinner and it was a really great partner. slimchill (694), Austin, Texas, USA Nov 27, 2008 Bottle. Murky pale gold-amber with a bubbly white head. Nose of peach, oranges and grapefruit from the Amarillo hops, and caramel. Huge complexity from the first sip. Fresh grapefruit and orange with musky brett presence. Caramel malt and fruity sweetness against a wonderful sharp musk. Thick and bubbly with huge drinkability. PorterPounder (2878), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Nov 18, 2008 Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 750 ml caged corked bottle. Murky, dark orange pour with a soft silky white head that leaves an extremely thick coat of lacing and sticks around for quite a while. Nice aroma of apricots, peaches and hints of spices. Sour, yet sweet flavor with some apricots, spices - cinnamon and allspice comes to mind. Some brief citrus rounds it out in the back end. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy. Excellent - reminds me of a strong Saison. Beershine (1515), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2008 Luminescent earthy orange color with haze and thick tan head that lasts. Earthy, grassy aromas with a fruity background adding depth and complexity. Citrusy funk is mellow and integrated well. Orange pith, some tea leaves and pastry dough. Strong effervescence. Mouthfeel is fun and lively with playful prickles. Mellow, earthy, balanced, integrated flavors. A melting pot of herbs, minerals, flowers, fruit, and funk. Spiciness as in basil, arugula. Citrus zest. Some tannin-like astringency. Citrus juice splash finishes off the flavors with off-dry delightfulness. Solid, well-made brew. smith4498 (409), Miami, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2008 Pours hazy dark golden color with off white head. Bready yeast aroma with caramel and brett. Flavors of citrus, caramel malts and tartness of brett. Medium body with livel carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. I’d like to try this with about 6 more months on it to see how the brett flavors change.
