4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jgb9348 (3369) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - MAY 2, 2009
Nice chunky, hazy and bright copper coloured body with orange and tan highlights all with a bright soapy, lacy egg-white head. Aroma of honey, curacao, yeast, wheat, flowers and coriander seed. Medium-bodied; Strong assertive malt, wheat and yeast tucked in with flowers, grass, honey and some light nuts. Aftertaste shows a very complex and refreshing beer - good flavours of floral hops, wheat and yeast along with a light alcoholic flavour and some sugars too. Overall, a nice beer - refreshing and complex at the same time, with a good dry character at the end. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 03-August-2008, sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 02-May-2009.

Draught. Called "De Proef Signature Golden". Sampled at The Stumbling Monk in Seattle on October 18, 2007. Pours a foamy white head with an orange body. Nose of tart Seville oranges, hops and wild yeast. Very good flavour and texture. Smooth, without burn and nicely balanced. Like a young Big Foot.

750ml bottle pours hazy golden yellow with a soft white head, looks and smells delicious, with a green, dried hop leaf and stinky cheese funk in the nose, and a funky feet and BO-like cheesy flavor, along with a wonderful dry grassy green hop flavor and a moderate to heavy bitterness for such a style.

Bottle. I was pretty excited to see this one in my local store - and for good reason. Pours out a nice orange color with a white head on it, lacing all the way down too. Good looking beer. Smell is fruity, sweet, yeasty, has some banana aspects and some hop notes as well. Taste is fruity and pretty hoppy to be a belgian strong. Easy to drink, fresh tasting, and smooth. A really good beer actually, and thank God it isnt hyped so I can maybe get another bottle of this.

VRBT. Very happy to get to try this one. Medium, hazy orange yellow. Sweet malt aroma. Full bodied, dominated by light malts, a hint of brett, and some undefined fruitiness. Nice, but nothing really leapt out at me. I wanted more oomph somewhere.

It’s pretty much an Americanized imperial saison, and I love it. Hazy orange/yellow pour with froth off-white head. Barnyard funk, lemon zest, cherries, apple, bread, caramel, spice, and citrus. Complex and flavorful.

750 from HiTime Wine. Boy, is this an amazing beer. I kept thinking "this is what Ommegeddon is trying to be," although that’s a bit unfair and it’s more Flemish primitive than dry farmhouse funk. Anyways, a golden-to-orange pour with a very lively head, this one has tart fruit aromas from the git-go. It’s very flavorful, with hints of blood orange flavors and what tastes like some dry-hopping in there too. I’m not getting the spices some folks note, but it doesn’t matter to me - this one is just a superb collaboration.
