3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hapjydeuce (854) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 6, 2007
UPDATED: APR 8, 2008 750ml bottle, from MJ’s club. Prost! This is an intriguing beer. Ive had some of these "fusion" beers that mix yeasty Belgian ales with American hopping, and this one does the style some justice. Pours a hazy blond with and orange center and a whole lot of that lacing thing goin on. Citrusy aroma of pear and banana with Belgian yeast, backed up by a greenish pine scent with spice. Complex flavor that teases the palate between the bread-like yeasty and malty Belgian base, the bittering hops and a moderately sour finish from the brett. Very drinkable, and the Amarillo hops makes itself known, staining the palate between each sip. Nicely done.

Nice looking beer. Extremely well balanced palate. Niice. Some spice in the carbonation. Yeast, sweet bubble-gum notes, and bitterness hidden in the back.

750 mL c&c bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Hazy orange pour with an excellent head. Big retention and nice lacing. Very yeasty and fruity aroma with notes of citrus, apple, pear and mild funk. A much mellower taste than expected. Earthy caramel tones with an cherry/citrus fruitiness. The brett is barely noticeable in this young bottle. A very nicely balanced and pleasant brew.

Tasting, courtesy of Fordest’s event. Beer #2. Pours a murky, cloudy yellow color with a small white head that soon dissipates to a fine ring. Aroma was loaded with sweet perfumy flowers and some barn funk. The flavor was characterized by tropical fruits, tart grass and more sweet perfumy flowers. Mouthfeel was light and clean. The finish was long with lingering sweet fruits. Overall: Good stuff if you want something sweet and floral.

Would rate this much higher in a couple years. This needs time. Sediment was heavy, a little oxidized but in a good way. Floral, hops kick in a little in the mid and finish. Slightly disjointed finish and dry. Nose smelled of white rubber, and the brew had some sweetness. I have to believe once that balances out with some bottle age this will be an outstanding brew. And at around $13 not bad for a special brew in a 750ml caged bottle.
