3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheJestersBeer (523) - SWEDEN - NOV 5, 2011
500ml bottle.
Pours a very dense, dark, reddish-brown, verging on black, with a thick brown head.
The aromas signal smoothness - roasted malts, milk chocolate, cappucino rather than coffee, smoke, licorice, hops, ashes.
Dry, medium bodied, medium bitterness, lively CO2.
Roasted malt and coffee dominate the taste, chocolate, hops, licorice, ashes.
There’s an acidity, most likely from the roasted malt, that leaves the finish a bit astringent, and it feels as if a bit more body would have been great. Still quite nice and balanced. (2011-11-05)

Bottle. Pours an opague black color with some faint reddish notes and a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate with some sugary and burnt notes. Flavor follows the nose with lots of roasted malts, burnt and slightly ashy notes, chocolate, coffee and some sugary flavors. The body is medium with a fizzy lager mouthfeel. Overall a pretty solid Schwarzbier.

This is my first schwartzbeer ever so I kinda relate it to what I already know, kinda like a porter. Aroma is of roasted/chocolate/coffe malt. Appearance is very dark, with no light through it at all, almost "peat bog" like, head retention is ok but my glass may be dirty. Taste is sharp roasted malt, very little hints of fermentation, nutty and coffee like. The palate is a nice roastines and a bit stoutish in how thick and gooey it pours. (think of swedish licorice here). Overall I was expecting an octoberfest and its more like right drink for a short swedish autumn
