I wish I’d tasted the Sigtuna Vinterlager together with this one, and not yesterday. Right now I feel like I’m drinking the same beer once more, but I’m sure there are some differences… It looks quite different though: the Dunkel Lager is dark copper and the small, frothy and very light-brown head are gone in no time and leaves little lacing. The moderate aroma is roasted with caramel, mild coffee and hints of ash. The taste is light sweet and light to moderate bitter, I guess the Dunkel Lager is a bit less bitter than the Vinterlager. Roasted flavour profile with coffee with fruits and berries on top (more fruity than the Vinterlager). Nice mouthfeel, although I got some vague metallic hints in the first few sips. Dry texture, especially the finish is dry. Soft carbonation.
[33 cl bottle, enjoyed 2 months before the handwritten BB date (isn’t that craft beer-ish?), from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]

Flaske 0,33l fra Vinmonopolet Oslo Vika. Skibotn 4 Mai 13. Ekstremt dyp amber. Bra skum med litt lacing. God aroma av røstet malt. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken er litt tynn. Hint av røstet malt. Blir litt tørr bitter etter hvert. KI=7

Very dark brown with thin white head. Aroma of caramel, malts, faint alcohol. Taste more sweet than bitter. Fairly light mouthfeel and finish. Soft carbonation.

Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm. Very dark brown, creamy head. Mild coffee and caramel up front. MId dry with clean mouthfeel and light-medium body. Flavours of fudge and espresso, increasingly bitter finish, A modern/US style interpretation of dunkel.

Bottle from Systembolaget. It poured a very dark red liquid with a big dirty white head. Smell of dark bread and a bit of yeast. The taste was more focused on dark spicy bread, but also some chocolate and nuts. Slightly harsh mouthfeel and light body.

Bra färg och inledande smak. Den saknar fyllighet och eftersmak. Viss ton av sterinljus. Inte en av Sigtunas bästa.

330ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Vika. Headless, deep, dark brown coloured body. Liquorice malts to the nose. Bitter liquorice in flavour supported by subdued chocolate hints, slightly roasted. Dark spices included as well. Soft in the mouth. Quite alright (hotel room, Bergen 16.09.2012).

Smells almost anything. Tastes pretty much. The aftertaste disappears quickly. A pretty mediocre beer. Thought it would be much better but it needs more flavor to be good. Poor with a taste more.
