Draught at SBWF. Hazy mahogany colour, minimal head. Meaty and mildly smoky. Full bodied with soft mouthfeel. Deep buttery malt, pleasantly warming with notes of peat and low bitterness. A malt centered beer with huge qualites in that department!

courtesy of Per - opaque dark brown beer with a little beige foam left; strong aroma of toffee with light notes of alocohl and prunes; full-bodied and pretty sweet; residual sweetness and lot of caramel and hints of walnuts as well - robust

Den här ölen gillade jag, kroppen är så slät och krämig att jag blir alldeles till mig. Smaken bär inslag av karamell, rostad malt, sötma och en svag ton av rökighet. Det här är helt enkelt en bra och välbalanserad sak.

Aroma: Smelling of nuts, chocolate covered orange marmalade, caramel and sherry.
Appearance: A dark chestnut colored beer. An off-white head with small lacing but good curtains.
Taste: Tasting of sweet brown bread, toffee, bitter orange, red ripe apples.
Palate: Low carbonation, a soft texture, sticky and oily. A big body with a little dry finish.
Overall: In all a good strong ale, should maybe mature a bit.
Note: Reviewed 2012-10-29.

Dark brown color, almost black; it has a very low carbonation, and therefore the head is small, creamy, of which only a few bubbles persist. The aroma is mild but interesting, with a balanced blend of caramel, treacle, malt, roasted malt, a hint of firewood and dark chocolate.
It’s full bodied, and round, thanks to the low carbonation too; it’s defined by the brewer as "Scottish Barley Wine", but it’s not as sweet and rich as a Barley Wine; it has a quite good flavor of dark caramel with light smoke; the bitterness is relatively low, and the final rather short.
Good, but it lacks of depth, that could acquire with just a bit more of bitterness or malt.

Nice dark reddish colour. Taste of caramel and a small amount of peat. Maybe a little to bitter or to dry.

(Bottle) Reddish brown colour with lasting, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dark rye bread, dried fruit, treacle, chocolate, coffee, hints of smoke and a touch of rowan-berry jelly. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, brown sugar, dried fruit, prunes, coffee, orange peel, dark chocolate and a finish with a balanced spicy bitterness and a touch of alcohol. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and quite well balanced for its strength. Very nice.
