TBone (5115), Pori, Finland Mar 22, 2008 Bottled (BB 06/2007)
Hazy dark amber color, small off-white head. Strong aroma of ... glue. It’s kind of fruity and sweet but it really smells like glue. Quite full-bodied. Sticky, grassy sweet fruity flavor. Dried prunes, apricot, banana and mango. Crisp carbonation. Not really pleasant and not easy to drink, aftertaste is better, nice fruity flavor. Sigtuna’s beers are always on or off. oh6gdx (6332), Vaasa, Finland Mar 22, 2008 Bottled (thanks omhper). Hazy nutbrown colour with mediumsized beige head, some lace. Aroma is alcohol, toffee and some other stuff in a very gluelike mix. Flavour is caramel malts, some fruityness, nuts and mildlly burning alcohol. Aftertaste is fruity hops, grass and some yeastyness. sayravai (3181), Helsinki, Finland Dec 26, 2007 (Bottled, BBE 06/2007, rated 12/2007, from a Bolleke, my 1000th rating of Belgian-style beers, thanks omhper/oh6gdx!) Slightly hazy dark amber with a cloudy-creamy, lasting and lacy head. Sweetish, toffee-grainy-malty aroma with coriander spiciness, raisins and other dried fruit. Sourish-malty, quite yeasty flavor with low bitterness (hops already gone, I suppose). Grainy, sweetish and fruity finish. Medium-bodied, smooth-carbonated palate. The aroma is nice, but flavor is too much like ’t Smisje brews when not at their best. Very smooth and not bad overall, though. pilsnerrogge (1609), Finspång, Sweden Dec 4, 2007 Draught at Glennfiddish Warehouse, Stockholm Dark reddish brown with a slight haze. Head looked ok. Slightly sour, yeasty aroma. Flavour is somewhat sour as well (infected?) with a nice, somewhat alcoholic and warming bitterness. Rastacouere (5355), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Nov 18, 2007 Cloudy amber offering wearing a delicate off-white head of moderate lacing. As soon as you smell, you worry about the overcarbonation and how it might hamper the flavours. it is indeed the case as the flavours seem to be thrown out in your face, but quickly vanish afterwards, not taking the time to leave an impression. It is too bad as there were some pleasant esters and spiciness coming out from that yeast with melon, apple, peach, apricot and the like. More than subtle hops don’t really feel necessary to cut through the sweetness that is already severed by the bubbles. Fruity yeastiness and honeyed malts all throughout. I found the easter version more satisfying.
