Bottled. A black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of maæt, chocolate, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, smoke, roasted malt, and caramel, leading to a bitter finish.

330 mL bottle from LCBO served cool in a tulip glass. Deep brown-black with a decent mocha head. Deep, rich and sweet, plenty of toffee and molasses, vanilla, chocolate, wood notes, a little booze, a bit fruity...stewed raisins and figs, very nice. Medium+ body with relaxed effervescence. Strong, rich dark chocolate, molasses, dark dried fruits, darker and blacker than the nose, still fairly sweet and friendly though, vanilla, sine oak notes; sweet with sufficient bitterness and a long, mouth-coating finish off rich chocolate and molasses. Quite good.

Opaque black color, small steady beige head. Toasted roasted aroma. Medium-bodied. Sweet malty, chocolate flavor then toasted coffeish flavors. Slightly milky too. Quite sweet overall.

Aroma of chocolate malt and berries. Black/dark brown with a small head. Taste coffee, chocolate and roasted sadly not very rich flavor. The beer got a medium/thin thickness. Not a bad beer but was expecting more.

Ernest (6573) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 7, 2013
Bottle (BB 2015-10-07). Head is initially large, creamy/frothy, brown, fully lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, coffee), with light notes of alcohol, tar, minerals. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively/soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Let it be known that I played Unleashed’s "Midvinterblot" album while rating/drinking this...the title track of course being a sequence of verses praying to Thor, Freyr, and lastly Odin, but in general it’s one of this Swedish death metal band’s best albums. I think this is the 2013 edition based on the BB date (and it appearing on the winter beer shelf with all the other new stuff at a Systembolaget in Stockholm in Dec). Is it worthy of the sacrificial winter blot festival? Not so much, but it’s not bad. Very roasty/coffee-ish in the nose, but surprisingly watery and thin in the mouth relative to its size. Expected/hoped for something more rich and satisfying, but it’s basically just a straightforward roasty stout with more alcohol in it.

Vignale (2410) - Malmö, SWEDEN - DEC 4, 2013
Flaska från SB. Julöl 2012 drucken 1 år gammal. Närmast kolsvart med högt bestående beige skum. Snyggt. Helt klart maffig.
