COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

330ml Bottle - Black with a tan head. Liquorice, plain chocolate, pine and soapy hops in the aroma. Roasted and hoppy taste with notes of bitter plain chocolate, liquorice and soapy hops. More roasted than many beers of this type, but that’s not a criticism.

330ml bottle. Pours nearly black, with brown edges, and a brown head. Spicy, roasted aroma, with quite a lot of resiny hop notes, grapefruit, spruce, caramel, chocolate, coffee. Off-dry, medium to full bodied, high bitterness, creamy CO2. Hoppy, roasted taste, spruce, grapefruit, ashes, grass, chocolate, coffee, tobacco. This one balances somewhere between a “proper” Black IPA and a hoppy porter. You could wish for a little more punch in the hoppiness, but the balance as it is now makes it all the more drinkable. 330ml bottle (Systembolaget, Stockholm)
Simple porter aroma - where is the ’ipa’ part of this?, some chocolate. Nice rich roasty body, again the chocolate comes over. Looks good, black, and with a tight sticky tan head. Ever so slight blue cheese retronasals, which is a bit offputting, but it’s so minor that it’s not a negative, definitely some lactic component. Finish has good burnt bitterness, and also bitter hops too. But those hops don’t make a Black IPA surely? Where are the aromatic hops? Full and smooth in the mouth, soft carbonation. A little drying, but very drinkable, bitter stout.

33cl Bottle at Lost Property. Great to see Swedish beers here, especially for a Dutch price (€3,50). Black colour, rocky light beige head. Aroma of sweet milk chocolate, cocoa, moccha, a bit milky. Flavour is a lot less sweet than expected, lots of hard roasted malts, light ashy, firm grapefruit bitterness, light bitter chocolate, cold coffee, good hoppy bitter finish. Medium bodied, soft mouthfeel. Good beer, more a hoppy porter than a Black IPA imo.

Bottled. Black with rich, firm beige head. Aroma of citrus and pineapple with espresso behind. Mid sweet with near full body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Concentrated flavours of tar, licorice and citrus. Potent warming finish with earthy licorice and long bitterness. A well made solid beer, exploring the borderline between two newly invented styles - imperial porter and black IPA.
