UPDATED: AUG 2, 2011 FIRST rating of anything from this brewery, and also my first buckwheat ale. I just loves buckwheat! Seriously, I cook it a lot, so I had high hopes for this Sara. Frothy brown pour. Yeasty, grainy, brown ale like aroma, with some malty sweetness to it. The taste is tangy and softly sweet, with a bit of poppy seed cake flavor. It is a touch thin and there might be a little wild yeast - very pleasant on a hot night. Interesting release.

Dezent hopfiger Malzantrunk mit metallerner Note. Im Mittelteil herber, dieser Ton kommt gleichzeitig mit einer eher langweiligen Gewürznote auf, die sehr bald wieder von der metallernen Hopfigkeit abgelöst wird. Dazu leicht scharf und irgendwie auch etwas malzig. Aromenmischmasch ohne Harmonie.

Bottle shared by DalzAle thanks Greg! pour is brown and clear with a tight kahki head that fades to a film. Aroma comes off with a grape wine scent and a little sour. Taste is more the same wine grapes and malt and yeast. Palate is thin and slick with a dry finish.

Bottle. Dark black pour, plenty of carbonation and an aroma of grapes. Flavor is also effervescent welch’s grape juice, slightly sour and not much else. Decent beer, but pretty one dimensional.

Dark brown colored with little light brown head. Grainy aroma with chocolate and sweetness, some dark fruity plummy note here as well. Medium bodied, carbonated palate. Flavor is more watery with lemon, grains and some cardboard, aftertaste has thin plum, with lasting carbonation.

Bottle. Hazy red brown color with big light brown head. Good looking! Sweet aroma with apples and malt. taste of malt, hay and some hops. Some spices, but not as much as I expected.

tasting on 3/19/11. deep red pour with no head. sweet dark fruit nose with light sherry notes. medium body with sweet fruits, raisins, dates, and grapes. the finish falls short - but sweet.

Taster from bottle. Finally, my last of 39 ratings from the Glunz Beer Expo, April 2010! I’ve got the bottom of the bottle in my sampler, so it’s very hazy, maybe just from yeast at the bottom. Brownish, very thin ring of foam. Nice malty, and yes a buckwheat smell. Tastes like a brown ale. some sourness to it. Possibly some honey and Brett in the mix. Spicy. Pretty hearty. A lot of ale fruitiness but not estery.

750ml bottle from 16th St. Liquor in West Vancouver. Pours a cloudy caramel colour with a thin creamy white head. Aroma of crème brulée, buckwheat and yeast. The flavour is the same, crème brulée, buckwheat and yeast. The body is light with a creamy texture and lively carbonation. Finishes well and tastes slightly boozier than the 6% alcohol. Pretty good.

Sampled at GCBF ’10, pours cloudy reddish brown. Aroma of grains and caramel malts. Flavour is more dominated by the grains, with wheat and some dark malt. Better than the regular Sara.
