Perkeo (311), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 29, 2003 New batch in 22 oz. bottles, late November 03 - Red gold, with moderate haze; fresh aroma of an equal quantity of "floral" and "herbaceous", with some citrus and barley sugar. Extremely pleasant smooth malt flavor against a smooth yet cleansing bitterness. Truly fine, life affirming beer! Gromit (450), Port Orchard, Washington, USA Mar 2, 2004 I love this brewery...
Pours almost like a Hefe except a darker, almost burnt color. It's very cloudy. A huge fluffy yead leaves a sheet down the side of the glass.
Scent is of Czech hops with a bit of malt; think of a really hoppy Pilsner.
Taste is complex and extremely well balanced; both sweet and bitter, almost tart. I can't put my finger on anything specific, though.
Mouthfeel misses the style but is damn good. I'd like to mark it higher I can't in good conscience. The carbonation dies too soon but it's still crisp. Overall this is awesome if not perfectly to style, and definately worth seeking out.
Reid (1008), Salem, Oregon, USA Apr 7, 2004 A pint at the Siletz roadhouse.
Well a very nice looking lager, darker than the usual ppilsner..almost orange in colour, similar to a clear hefe...nice sized pure white head.
Very hoppy aroma greets the nose..hoppy and fresh.
There is however a good accounting of the malt on the first sip nicely done offsets the dry bitter finish quite well.
Very good on the palate..a very nice drinking lager..I am beginning to love this brewery. Schroppfy (1741), Ohio, USA May 6, 2002 Very solid, among the best lagers I have had (Dominion’s and Nils Oscar are up there). The hop-creamy body is the thing here, pleasant, not as Saaz-supercharged as the commercial descript. would have led me to believe, but then, hey, I’m sick as hell and have 8 more 15 pagers to grade in 12 hours, not including (interrupted) sleep time. Damn this ratebeer addiction. But anyway, damn fine lager. beerguy101 (3542), Newark, California, USA Oct 2, 2002 Light gold color, slightly cloudy, large head. A light bodied, unfiltered lager brewed in the Czech style. Spicy Czech saaz hoops balance mild malts. A nice tasting lager. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Nice lager, very refreshing.
