Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 9, 2005 Dark amber/mahogany with a creamy dark beige head and sheets of lace. Bitter hop aromas with fruit a plenty; figs and orange peels. Caramel and toasted wheat. Alcohol and biscuits. The nose is very complex and nice. Rich and complex malt bill in the flavors. Thick caramel with roast and biscuits. Sweet and sour hops with bitter notes. Some figs and oranges as well. A touch earthy. Thick bodied but finishes with a big malt punch and blended hops.
bhensonb (3131), Woodland, California, USA Oct 12, 2005 This is a hearty version of Duchesse De Bourgogne. Yes, this is American and the other is not. Still, a hint or more of sour - yet a finish of bitter. Hits at least two areas of the taste buds. And there is a lot of sediment. Could this be bottle conditioned? Or at least alive? Could be my number three choice for that desert island. argo0 (6284), Washington DC, USA Jul 29, 2005 (22oz bottle) Medium beige head atop a hazy dark copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, some pine/grapefruit, cherry, fig. Taste is moderately sweet, cherry, caramel, some grapefruit, light pine. Somewhat sticky medium-full body, quite drinkable. Very enjoyable. Warning: it loses much of its appeal as it approaches room temp. beerguy101 (3542), Newark, California, USA Dec 19, 2003 Dark reddish amber color. Medium head. Aroma is malty, fruity and a touch sweet. A medium bodied strong ale. Malts are nutty, fruity and sweet. Hops are piney and slightly bitter. Fairly large rich malt tastes in this beer. It’s a little harsh tasting, and I think there are some of those “I can’t identify Christmas Beer spices” in here as well. It’s a very easy drinking winter warmer. Sort of grows on you. Painted beer bottle. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and a touch dry. Aftertaste is bitter. Reid (1008), Salem, Oregon, USA Aug 15, 2004 Purchased in the 22 oz sceen printed bomber.
In appearance this is a dark brown beer, with ruby accents..with a bubbly tan head.
the aroma is mainlly malty almost in a doppelbock way.
This has a fairly complex variety of tastessweet to start, then a surprising "fizzy" sourness on the sides of the tongue..followed by a long and pleasant bitterness. Some accents of bitter camp coffee come to mind.
Very good and exciting in the mouth..long finish.
A nice tasty ale from Siletz..a good brewery.
