blueduk (118), Eugene, Oregon, USA Jun 4, 2007 Pours murky brown-orange with a small beige head. Aromas of malt (orange or tangerine candy) and medicinal spruce.
Low carbonation, and a malty backbone that’s a mixture of fruit-juicy sweet and grainy and bisuity. Piled high on top of this is a sickening amount of spruce flavor that gives negative conotation to the word medicinal. No bitterness to speak of and a long sprucy aftertaste.
I often support the "less is more" when it comes to number of ingredients, but could we please reign in the spruce? I have had some very good beers in this style and this is not one of them primarily because it’s basically two solid flavors that don’t mesh well. Blegh.
BrewDad (1711), Olympia, Washington, USA Sep 30, 2008 22oz Bomber - Siletz Brewery - Siletz, OR

Aroma – Light ale malt aroma with a slight spruce aroma.
Appearance – Amber in color, Clear with a light head.
Flavor – This beer had some off flavors and was nasty to drink. Infected
Palate – So so Mouthfeel, OK texture with a dry buttery finish.
Overall – This was a very bad beer. The flavor was off and very filled with dactyl. I poured this beer out.
bitbucket (1601), Kirkland, Washington, USA Sep 13, 2008 Bomber. Pours hazy amber with a thin ring of foam. Floral, fruit and spruce aroma. Medium body and minimal carbonation. Lightly sweet spruce and fruit taste. Spicy, earthy and lightly sour finish. DTM (404), Winters, California, USA Aug 7, 2008 Bottle from Market of Choice in Ashland, OR. WOW!! this is definately different. It looked and smelled okay, but when I took a sip the palate was all over the place. It was malty with a little bit of sour. Not one of the better beers I’ve had. timfoolery (379), California, USA Aug 6, 2008 Bottle from Market of Choice in Ashland, OR. This one was not good. Compared to the Wooly Bully, it was slightly better (which isn’t saying much). It tasted straight on pine trees. There were some funky flavors, so it wasn’t a good mix of hops. Something was off. stchloe (242), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 29, 2008 A good spruce ale, incredibly lite. One part Riesling, one part Pepsi, and a third sheer spruce. I *heart* tree beer.
