brewshthereen (316), Oregon, USA Jun 29, 2004 This appears to be a brown ale. Nice toasty head. Aroma is roasted malt. Almost like a tootsie roll. Roasted, sour flavors. Thin and watery mouthfeel. This puckers my mouth. I question the freshness of my bottle. Alcohol is felt by the end of the glass, and is rather warming. However, as a winter offering I expected a more complex brew. Maybe thats just me, but I found this to be a let down.
Sledge Jr (2721), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Mar 19, 2008 In the bomber bottle from John’s Market in Portland. Pours a cloudy rusty brown with a medium beige head. Lemon-like aroma. The flavor is quite tart with an incredibly harsh bitter bite at the end. At first, I wondered if something was wrong with this because the bitterness was not hop-like at all, but rather the bitterness one might expect from drinking a poison. One of those Mother-Nature-is-warning-me bitter flavors. However, as it warmed and I kept at it, I realized that the bitterness really was from hops, just not very good flavoring hops and way too many of them. Plus, I was not poisoned. ABUSEDGOAT (1924), California, USA Feb 8, 2008 Amber ale? Hah. Murky dark orangish amber, moderate to small head, some lacing and retention. Aroma is caramel, light hops, some darker fruit, light spicing. Medium bodied, somewhat sweet, mostly not enjoyable. marcus (1118), Sacramento, California, USA Jan 22, 2008 This amber ale poured with a thin beige head, eliciting a musty aroma. The bottle cap was slightly loose and the flavor is very skunky, lieading me to believe that the beer is infected. Either that, or it is not a very good brew. Very citrusy and sour. WeeHeavySD (2025), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jan 7, 2008 07-08 Road Trip with BikesandBeer. Had at Horsebrass Pub in Portland. Pours dark amber with a thin tan head. Nose is full of nice light malt. Taste was sweet and spicy with malt, not bad at all. Angeloregon (2023), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 17, 2007 From a 22-oz. bottle--Poured a hazy mahogany/chestnut hue with a nose of fruity malts and mildly piny hops. Creamy mouth feel with a citrusy mild chewy finish. Dry and crisp finish.
