leroyneiman (9), Nashville, Tennessee, USA does not count Jun 23, 2008 Pours a mostly transparent hazy golden with a large, frothy and well-lacing white head. Sweet, slightly biscuity Saaz hop and lager yeast profile make for a strange, but not unappealing aroma. First sip starts sweet and pale malty drying out toward a more bitter, earthy finish with a touch of honey and coriander. Body is lively in carbonation and doesn’t have the fullness of body and malt to cover the massive (for the style) hop bitterness. Slepkov (16), Ithaca, Alabama, USA Aug 2, 2008 Pours a cloudy orangy-yellow with a thick, coarse, and prolonged head. On the nose is citrus grapefruit with some light spice and warm yeast and honey. Not as yeasty as most dubbles. Quite sweet with light carbonation. Sweetness sets this one apart, but it is not overdone. Mainly biscuits and honey with some light clove and some mineral sharpness. I am enjoying this very much, although others may find it too sweet. The 7.5% alcohol is hardly noticeable and is well ballanced. A triumph. Also has one of the most memorable and attractive caps out there. A real find! mickblueeyes (106), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 17, 2008 Color: Honey gold, clear, with foamy white head and moderate lacing.
Nose: Pungent nose. Toasted caramel. Marzipan. Fresh milled corn. Cornbread.
Palate: Copper. Fresh corn mash. Stewed white peach. Typical Belgian vegetal astrinigency on the finish and light sweetness. Medium weight on the palate. Perhaps a touch watery, but refreshingly so. dwyerpg (2143), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 14, 2008 I like this. Doesn’t look like a dubbel at all, since it’s very light in color. The flavor is enjoyable though. A bit of hops and bite. A little creamy. Good enough for me. Ughsmash (3148), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Dec 1, 2007 Bottled. Poured dull medium golden with a short, splotchy white head and rather thorough sediment suspended in there. The aroma was quite yeasty with bananas, light grains, and lemon zest with a pils malt sweetness.. sweet overall, but checked nicely by enjoyable spicage.. I’m really digging this! The flavor didn’t dissapoint.. light caramel and banana sweetness at the core was laced with white pepper and clovey spices and was amplified by a light dose of alcohol.. molasses, honey, and more spices on the finish. Medium-bodied and a touch tacky on the palate.. sweet with OK balance (couple sharp points). After looking at previous reviews, I wonder if this just needed some extra time in the bottle.
