Saison style top fermentation old brown beer. Its taste is remarkable, light and favourably combined to offer a tone that is both modestly sweetened and fruity, leaving the mouth with a refreshing feel as is constantly asked of it.

L: pours a murky dark amber. S: not much on the nose, mostly bready malt and a little pepper. Subtle citrus. T: like the smell but with the citrus more pronounced than the malt. This gives way to soapy sweetness as the drink goes on. F: has a dry sour taste, a bit tart up front. O: started well but ended a bit messy. Almost a drain pour by the end.

Pours brown-amber with thin white head. Not a color I expected for a saison. Aroma is kind of bready, yeasty. Flavors are relatively sweet, malty, maybe a hint of sourness, but seems closer to a bock due to the sweetness and color. Still drinkable and a bargain at 99 yen.

Bottle. Copper body, small head. Sweet and spicy aroma with prunes and juicy red grapes. Sweet fruity taste with fructose-heavy grape juice. Very faint tartness in the finish. Way too sweet and not my idea of a Saison - I wouldn’t prefer to drink this while working on a field in the hot weather. It’s more suitable as a dessert beer. Silly La Divine was sugary too but the sweetness had its merits there. I think cellaring this might give interesting results.

330ml bottle. Clear mahogany color. Tiny to almost no head, disappears. Caramel, sweet, malty, plums, fruity tones in aroma. Plums, dark rye bread, sweetish, malty in taste. Dark rye bread with plums in aftertaste. Soft carbonation.

Bottle from Seiyu (¥150). Pours a caramel brown color with a modest off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Faint aromas of grain, hay, caramel malt and muscat. Sweet and slightly sour (in a rotten fruit way) on the palate. Light to medium body with a cola mouthfeel. Soft to average carbonation. Fruit flavors come a little more forward as it comes to room temperature: stone fruit, raisin, prune, muscat. Finish has a nutmeg and clove element to it. Not really a saison in the modern sense, but historically saison is an open category so this brown fits in fine.

0,33L bottle (from beerExpress). Pours ruby with beige head. The head stays. Aroma is rotten fruits, caramel, apples, malt. Flavor is sweet and sour, slightly metallic, fruits, caramel, malt. Body is thin. Overall: too thin, but otherwise ok brew.

33cl bottle at home. Clear dark amber with a medium slightly off-white head with low retention. Low to medium body with ditto carbonation. Quite sweet with some herbal bitterness. Caramel, malts, raisin, brown sugar, hay and herbs. Too sweet for my taste.

It pours orange brown with thin lacing, aroma of that Belgian yeast, very syrupy, tastes like fresh malt, grainy.
