COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison style top fermentation old brown beer. Its taste is remarkable, light and favourably combined to offer a tone that is both modestly sweetened and fruity, leaving the mouth with a refreshing feel as is constantly asked of it.

In short: A generic fruity Belgian amber ale. Not much of a Saison
How: Bottle 330ml at Cambrinus, Brugge, Belgium
The look: Clear amber body topped by a long-lasting small beige head
In long: Nose is mostly about typical fruity esters of generic yeasty Belgian ale. Taste is more of the same. Very fruity, tropical fruits, berries, dark fruits… just overall fruity. No sign of wild yeast, no dryness, nothing that hints on the Saison style. Hard to say anything about this beer other than this is a basic fruity Belgian amber ale. I love Saisons so I had to try this one. Did you really expect a half-decent Saison from this boring brewery? Don’t be absurd, this is Silly.

33cl bottle at home. Clear dark amber with a medium slightly off-white head with low retention. Low to medium body with ditto carbonation. Quite sweet with some herbal bitterness. Caramel, malts, raisin, brown sugar, hay and herbs. Too sweet for my taste.

It pours orange brown with thin lacing, aroma of that Belgian yeast, very syrupy, tastes like fresh malt, grainy.

Classic but ’deviant’ saison, in existence for seventy-odd years or so, proving the term ’saison’ could encompass more different beers than we now associate with it - and therefore interesting from a Belgian beer history perspective. Historically speaking, this fits the saison category perfectly for the simple reason saison could be most any kind of ’seasonal farmer’s beer’ back then. This one colours a deep bronze, misty, under a creamy and dense, yellowish white head; malty and estery nose, grapes, hazelnuts, overripe peach, banana, honey... Sweet and fruity taste on a soft, ’fluffy’ malt backbone, slightly nutty, a bit honeyish, yeasty with some lingering candi syrup sweetness, spicy notes and drying herbal hop bitterish finish with slight sourish touch. Unusual but ’honest’ and very enjoyable, I still regard this as one of Belgium’s classic beers, certainly from a historical viewpoint.

[Tap] Cloudy brown in color. Beige colored head. Sweet caramel and mild spices in the nose. Dark fruits, more residual sugars, caramel and mild banana bread flavors in the flavor. Sweet finish. Not much of a saison feel to it. Still the flavors came together nicely for me.

Draft at shortys on Pearl NYC. Pours a brown red color with no head. Sweet malty with a hint of bready yeast. Doesn't really taste lime a saison

A mid brown-orange coloured beer with a frothy but weak white head. A mild sour aroma, malt vinegar and sour fruit. The taste is a mild sourness, a strange sweet and sour flavour, malt vinegar and caramel, slightly bready and pickled fruit, lemon and grapefruit. The mild tartness stays until the finish.

Old rating rerated 16.01.2015, 0,33l bottle @ Royal Gourmetburger & Gin:
Small fizzy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet grainy, hay, wet grain, minerals, caramel, cereal, yeast, grass, toast. Taste is slightly sweet sour-ish, wet grain, sugar, minerals, harsh hay, sour grass, cereal, weeds. Little bitterness, harsh sour-ish mouthfeel. Close to a drainpour, and far from being a saison...

Bottle picked up at Wilburs in CO
Pours clear dark amber with a small beige head, some lacing. Aroma is sweet, dark fruit and Belgian candy. Taste is malty, dark fruit, caramel, bitters with a dry finish
Decent, but I wouldn’t want another one.
