Dark brown pour with a white head. Nose of sweet caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, and toffee. Some butterscotch, vanilla, alcohol, and maybe a light nuttiness. There’s a lot of malty sweetness to the flavor. Plenty of caramel, toffee, and butterscotch. Notes of vanilla, dark fruit, and chocolate. Toasted nuts, light alcohol, and a nice toast character.

Brown color with light beige color. Faint smoky malt aroma. High alcohol content is well masked as this is highly drinkable. Rich chewy body with sweet maltiness as well as caramel and roasted chestnuts
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 hotstuff (3340) - Indiana, USA - APR 13, 2013
Bottle - This beer has a small beige head that was mostly lasting, one ring of lacing, transparent body with a reddish brown hue, and lively, fast rising carbonation. The aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, and lightly hoppy. This beer tastes semi-sweet, malty, caramel, lightly hoppy, and wisps of alcohol. The palate is tingly, bubbly and this is a medium bodied beer. Overall, the first taste of this beer had a burning sensation in the back of my throat, but then it calmed down as the beer kept getting warmer. I enjoyed drinking this beer, it is a sipping beer at 9.2%ABV, worth trying, and I would drink this beer again.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 thedm (4773) - Fort Wayne, USA - APR 9, 2013
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy fine to large sized light brown colored bubbles that were and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque dark ruby red brown colored body and a fair lacing. The nice aroma was dark malt. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering dark malt aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of roasted malt mild hops and dark malt. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a small head. Nose is very malty and a bit of caramel with a decent bit of sweetness in there. Taste is much the same, though it isn’t at all sweet. Nice and smooth and makes an easy drink. I like it.

Collins Pub in Seattle, from memory. Brown pour, malty aroma. Taste is all malt, not overly sweet, some complexity, signifcant smokey notes...or as my buddy says, "Sweety socks". It’s ok. Probably deserves another tasting, but my impression was that I wasn’t missing much.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jkwood04 (2286) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 21, 2013
22oz bottle in a thistle. Pours brown with a light beige head. Aroma of a lot of caramel and toffee and nuttiness from the malts, plus a nice floral hop note and hints of alcohol. Flavor about the same, with the malt character what it should be for a beer of this style. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer, but the alcohol could be hidden a little more.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dogbrick (6021) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAR 8, 2013
Sample at the Tap House Grill in Seattle. The beer is a clear ruby-brown color with a medium thick beige head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of earthy malt, fruit and caramel. Full-bodied with flavors of smoked malt, ripe fruit and figs. The finish is peaty with a burnt malt and dark fruit aftertaste. Decent all around.
