Gromit (449), Port Orchard, Washington, USA Apr 23, 2005 This is one of my favorite Scotch Ales. Thankfully, the brewery is nearby.
Pours a mahogany color with a thin but nice head and some lacing.
Aroma is very malty with a strong peat presence.
Flavor is malt, peat, smoke, and some darker fruits. Well balanced.
Palate is full with a nice mineral mouthfeel. Overall this is an exceptional beer and well worth seeking out.
unclejedi (2), Madison, Alabama, USA does not count Sep 4, 2006 Best Scotch Ale from my recent Seattle trip, sampled both on tap at the brewpub and from one of the bottles I brought home. Sweet caramal malt, pours with a light brown creamy head. Very smooth finish with a touch of alcohol. bager (2060), Copenhagen N, Denmark Oct 15, 2006 Bottled. Dark brown and reddish in colour with almost no head. Sweet and roasted and malty. Notes of raisins and prunes and other dark fruits. Hint of caramel. Slightly hoppy finish. grandridge (160), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Jul 11, 2008 Ahh this brew will always be fat bastard to me. Good to get this out in Ohio via trade. This was the 1st scotch I ever had and I didn’t even know it at the time back in Silverdale OH in my old Navy days. Aroma is sweet malt and maple syrup and some alcohol. Nice velvety smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is malty sweet with a smoky scotch finish that gives just a little bit of alcohol but not too much. Love the fatty bastard. beerabill (14), Silverdale, Washington, USA Sep 23, 2006 On tap at the brewery, and in a grouler from the brewery. This one is a fine ale. Held up to the light, the color is brown diamond. Big tastey mouthfeel, with the taste of caramel honey malt. This is a strong scotch ale, but the aftertaste is smooth, and sweet. A regular friday night brew for me. Very good.
