BückDich (4497), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 9, 2008 Tap @ Brewery: Chewy bourbon color, no head or lacing. Fruit and fig with nutmeg in the nose, some brown sugar and some maple syrup with lots of other malliard’s friends. Not a lot more going on, but that’s enough for me with a scotch ale.
decaturstevo (1134), decatur, Tennessee, USA Jul 15, 2008 Brown pour with tan head and lace. A bit of sour and brown sugar on the nose. Large brown sugar and malt on the flavor. A bit thin and watery. Drinkable but not hugely special. grandridge (116), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Jul 11, 2008 Ahh this brew will always be fat bastard to me. Good to get this out in Ohio via trade. This was the 1st scotch I ever had and I didn’t even know it at the time back in Silverdale OH in my old Navy days. Aroma is sweet malt and maple syrup and some alcohol. Nice velvety smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is malty sweet with a smoky scotch finish that gives just a little bit of alcohol but not too much. Love the fatty bastard. Sleeper (34), Washington, USA Jun 16, 2008 Pours with no head. Brown in color. Good full flavor of dark malts and a hint of chocolate. Finish has hints alcohol ethers. It’s just what I was looking for today. ChainGangGuy (1457), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 14, 2008 Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a small, ivory-colored head.
Smell: Sweet-smelling, malty aroma full of dark fruits, toasted caramel, peat, Grade-B maple syrup, and a non-full hint of chocolate.
Taste: Dark malts with a sweetness reminiscent of downing simple syrup, maple syrup, and caramel sauce. Rich, intense fruitiness with tastes of raisins and figs. Slight smokey scotch character. A drop of chocolate. Sweet, smokey finish with a touch of alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Slight stickiness to the mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Decent enough, sure, but boy oh boy is it sweet. heemer77 (3611), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jun 8, 2008 Noogfest ’08. The body was dark brown. Caramel aroma was some malt and sweet pears. The taste was rich caramel and pears. Boring.
