What happens when you take a rich, complex scotch ale and age it on American white oak? Fat Woody is created. Smooth vanilla notes intertwine with subtle smokiness and bold malt character in this big brother to our Fat Scotch Ale.

Bomber from Tavour. Nose is light banana, vanilla, homemade biscuits, and a hint of toffee with bubblegum. Clear rusty red with a medium beige head. Flavor is lightly sweet and very malty with heavy nut notes.

A very good scotch ale. Pours a deep Amber with little head. Smells of dark fruit, green grapes, plum and whiskey. Taste has a oak and whiskey sweetness, with more dark fruit. Sweet finish. Had in the bottle.

8oz draft at Chuck’s CD. Caramel or light brown banana is most prominent aspect. Interesting for a Scotch ale. Lightly woodsy, no hoppiness, light bodied, no oak or wood aspects. I like it but I would never call it a Scotch Ale.

Tap at Bud. Almost black, red-brown tints. Thick medium head. Nose of vanilla-bourbon and fudge. Rich vanilla flavor, bourbon, a bit boozy, some cola. Heavy, thick, really nice.

Mid brown pour. Aroma banana, fruity, slight choco. Tastes slight smoke, woody, coconut, brown sugar, whiskey, creamy lactic barrel. crazy how it became a hot mess through barrel aging.

Delightful scotch. Excellent mouthfeel & deliciously flavored. This is one fine scotch & hides the 9% very well! The caramel really stands out as well as it’s smoothness! Very good!

Pours a deep mahogany color with a finger of eggshell foam. Nose is spicy vanilla, burnt sugar, some apple, molasses and composted fruit. Palate is super awkward, lots of banana, nilla wafers, cream soda, spicy raisins... Weird.

Pours a deep dark hue that turns out to be kind of a deep chestnut mahogany, that’s consideraly more ruby when held up to the light.. Small creamy tan head, dissipates fairly quickly, but enough sticks around to coat the top of the liquid, though not the glass itself. Aroma is primarily boozy dark fruits. Raisins and bourbon. Some smokey peat, some sweet fruits, a lot of rich languid colours. Taste takes all the promise of the aroma: the dark fruits, the boozy, peaty, scotchiness, and makes it dangerously smoothe. 9.2 is almost uncannily well hidden. The taste is quite sweet and creamy, with less of the bitter finish commonly found in the style. Brown sugar, peat, boozy raisins, smoothe vanilla... actually exceeds my expectations, and I was optimistic about this one. Unbelievably smoothe.

Draught at Malt & Vine, Redmond
Dark amber color. Caramel aroma, creamy. Good body strength, fairly sweet, with deep caramel flavor; almost a Barley Wine, with a light smoke and butter touch; low bitterness, some sweet nuts in the end.
