Commercial Description:
Malt is the dominant feature of Macfarlane's Scotch ale. Six different malts are blended to give richness and depth. A dash of peated malt lends a hint of smokiness reminiscent of a single malt Scotch whisky.

0.26 gallon pop top jug reveals a dark brown colored fluid topped with a nice, thick brown head. Smells of caramel and smoked wood. The taste is malty sweet and smokey; the malt presense is huge. Has a medium body. Finishes with a sharp smoked, then mildly bitter alcohol taste. July 2004

On Tap at the brewpub. A nice clear chestnut brown with a decent off white head. Aroma of sweet pitted fruit and slightly roastes malts. Flavor was malty and fairly sweet. Woody like a cask aged and a nice moderte body. Nice

Dark mahagony with minimal, but long lasting, head. Smells of raisins. Rough mouth feel. Sweet and chewy malt with a hint of hop bitterness hits you up front and a mouth coating malty, chocolaty and tobacco aftertase.

On tap at the brewpub. Dark brown beer with a ruby/orange tint. Sweet malty aroma, brown sugar, toffee, lighty whiskyish character but doesn’t really come across as peaty. Very creamy body, sweet and toffeeish, with a clean lightly fruity finish. Light pepperiness sneaks in toward the end.
