Bier brauen (142), Bremerton, Washington, USA Mar 5, 2008 I thought this was one of the best (porters?) I’ve had in a while. Sweet, rich, chocolate, and fullness to the mouth. I’ve been meaning to talke to the brewmaster to brew this again. The one I had was 2006. derkruk (11), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 10, 2006 I bought this bottle several weeks ago at Uber and drank it at home last night.
Aroma is toasty, nutty (toasted pecan), and malty sweet with hints of chocolate and dark cherry. Also has a spiciness to it, like a root beer, with licorice and anise aromas. Appearance is rich red mahogany, clear, with a medium off-white head that tries to lace. Flavor is malty, sweet, rich, and spicy like a cross between a Belgian dubbel and an Aventinus. Has a Belgian candi sugar sweetness and some slight dark fruit notes. Mouth feel is medium-bodied, with medium high carbonation, giving it a little crispness. Some alcohol warming. Malty sweetness lingers in the finish. Overall a well-made Belgian style dubbel that is slightly light in the body. Old_Mr_Crow (1043), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 7, 2006 Updated: Mar 5, 2008Bottle shared with Oakes, glkaiser, and Sham at Uber Tavern in Seattle.
Pour a deep brown and provides a sweet nutella aroma. The beer is far too sweet in flavor, think Thai iced coffee, with few other redeeming characteristics -- a bit of nuttiness, smoky/salty hints, rather sticky mouthfeel.
I won’t be a repeat visitor. Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Sep 3, 2006 Dark brown. Chocolatey aroma, nice light toffeeish note. Hints of coffee, light chocolate. Subtle maltines but bland.
