3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle to snifter, shared at home with my wife.
Pours clear deep mahogany. Minimal head, dissipates quickly, leaving first a ring around the edge and then nothing.
Aroma: Toffee, apple, cherry, vanilla. Inviting.
Taste: Red-licorice candy sweet. Minimal hop bitterness.
Palate: Full bodied, moderate carbonation. The sweet-sticky mouth-coating lingers long after the beer is finished.
Overall: Drinking this beer reminds me of what I like about the Silver City Fat Wood Scotch Ale. This is a nice dessert to curl up with on a cold night like tonight.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rated on 02-13-2015 (Bottle) The appearance is a small creamy smooth beige head that mostly diminishes, hazy amber body, very fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is fruity, cherries, sweet, malt, spicy, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet, bready malt, dark fruit, candy sugar, and light toffee. The mouthfeel is lively and this beer is light-medium bodied. A most quaffable beer with a good flavor and worth trying.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy fine to medium sized dark tan colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a softly carbonated transparent light red brown colored body and a very good lacing. The nice aroma was candy spicy floral and bready. The sharp accents of a smooth mildly vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a bitter caramel hop aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of mildly acidic roasted malt cloves mild citrus toffee vinous spices floral caramel breads and hops. A wonderful best in class brew.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a mostly clear reddish dark amber color with a moderate tan head on there. Nose has a lot of caramel and bread to it. Taste is quite sweet and weirdly fruity, almost bordering on fruitcake. Weird beer...

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On Tap at the Silverdale BP Clear deep redish brown,. Nice sweet malty aromas. A little spice and cinnamon. Rich malty toasted flavors. Smooth and rich. Not so big for a barley wine, but full bodied and soft. Nicely ballanced and getting even better as it warms up.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from The Wine Sellers, Port Townsend
Hazy dark amber color with almost no head. Caramel aroma and flavor, candi sugar, soapy, rather sweet, with some fruity esters; correctly bitter but with too much alcohol presence; overall it’s just a sweetish beer with not much character, very American; not bad, but nothing special. Not an Old Ale.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Rich copper, ruby, rose and violet coloured body with beautiful tints and a thin, oily tan head on top - this looks like an old. Aroma of basement, must, caramel, toffee, rye, specialty grains, metal and a bit of deep honey and floral notes. Medium-bodied; Assertive musty and malty flavours with a good dose of alcohol, metal, caramel, toffee, earth and dry oaky notes are noticeable throughout the entire taste. Aftertaste shows a complexity that rivals others of the best from this style - a good musty flavour with some nuts, earth, oak, vanilla, pit fruit and caramel sweetness that shows immediately that this isn’t a barley wine or similar - this is definitely an old ale. Overall, a very nice beer for the style and showing amazing complexity and depth, but the initial flavours, smell and look especially make this perhaps one of the best olds i’ve ever had! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington on 10-February-2013 for US$6.79 sampled at home in [the real] Washington on the other end of the country on 09-March-2014.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 ounce bottle
Thanks to Santa for a respectable example of a West Coast seaonal. It might not be the greatest beer but with glimmers of potential it shows that there is still enjoyment in the unexpected. A heady release is perfect for a lazy afternoon when the ground is blanketed in fresh snow.
Aroma / Appearance - A semitransparent ruby red base retains only a dash of fresh head. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and other seasonal spices waft in the air along with red vines and Hershey’s chocolate kisses.
Flavor / Palate - Red vines dominate the texture from first sip to finish. Underneath is a base of chocolate and cherry pie. Malts tickle the tongue at times. Overall though it feels lacking compared to more robust examples such as Great Lakes Christmas Ale. I may give Silver City another shot but this time I will not expect as much.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Average barley wine. Comes across as a bit flat, and is boozy even at 8.5%. There are better. B-
