Pours nearly black with a tan head. Hop-and-blackberry drive the aroma along with some of the expected roasty tones; we see the same thing in the flavor only more so. Lots of blackberry and dark cherry, deep-roasted coffee, a decisive hop close with the Amarillo coming in even through the midrange to meld spicy citrus with the berries and keep both dancing lightly beneath the chocolate and coffee. Thisis a big high-octane stout, and it’s a very nice one in my book. Well worth a revisit. grandridge (169), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Aug 9, 2008 Pours dark with light beige head. Roasted aroma immediately comes out as I pour. Flavor is roasted malts I wish I could taste the cents and the amarillo more. This is a few months old and the hops might’ve faded by now. Still a solid beer that deserves to be one of the better stouts out there. Angeloregon (2023), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 29, 2008 From By The Bottle--Poured a deep dark brown-black body with a fluffy thick tan head. Nutty, creamy, chocolate and bitter hoppy nose. Roasty complex delicious finish. Awesome! goldtwins (3747), Nesconset, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Poured a very dark brown color with a large brown head. Fairly hoppy full of piny hops and dry cocoa. The flavor was fairly hoppy as well but this time more citrusy and a big milk chcocolate base. Hops come back lightly at the finish followed by a moderate bitterness. Light-medium body and some warmth. notalush (2128), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Thanks to JoeMcPhee for sharing - dark brown beer, with a nice ring of lace - smells hoppy/leafy, with a little coffee and cocoa underneath - quite hoppy, with some notes of tobacco behind it - a little bit of berry fruitiness in the background, and some light sweet cream flavor - a lot of chocolate starts to come through as it warms, as does some warming alcohol - a pretty nice stout.
