hopdog (4444), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 14, 2008 22oz botttle acquired in trade with riversideAK (thanks!). Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, earthy and some pine. Tastes of chocolate, roast, some coffee, and a lighter earthiness.
goldtwins (3672), Nesconset, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Poured a very dark brown color with a large brown head. Fairly hoppy full of piny hops and dry cocoa. The flavor was fairly hoppy as well but this time more citrusy and a big milk chcocolate base. Hops come back lightly at the finish followed by a moderate bitterness. Light-medium body and some warmth. notalush (1971), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Thanks to JoeMcPhee for sharing - dark brown beer, with a nice ring of lace - smells hoppy/leafy, with a little coffee and cocoa underneath - quite hoppy, with some notes of tobacco behind it - a little bit of berry fruitiness in the background, and some light sweet cream flavor - a lot of chocolate starts to come through as it warms, as does some warming alcohol - a pretty nice stout. JoeMcPhee (3643), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Dark black beer, thin tan head. The aroma is lovely, rich piny hops over some black licorice, cocoa and dark bitter chocolate. Flavour is quite piny with a touch of peppery alcohol. As it warms the cocoa and dark malts really open up from behind the spicy/piny hoppiness. Lingering roastiness on the back. It’s kind of on the border of regular and imperial stout, but it’s quite tasty regardless of what you call it. dirt55 (41), Washington, USA May 25, 2008 Wonderful roasted aroma, probably more prominent after it warms up, very dark/black pour, very clean and almost light body with excellent roasted flavor that isn’t overwhelming, nothing heavy on the palate as some stouts deliver, put this thing on a nitro and I’ll take it over Guinness every time. mnapier (10), Washington, USA May 14, 2008 Service Temperature, 45 degrees farenheit. Service Glassware, 12 ounce tulip.
Appearance, is a dark & dense with a salt & pepper accented, mild to medium, khaki foamy head, that leaves no lace behind.
Aroma, is a waft of roasted-ness and some mocha, and an air of subtle nuttiness.
A sip later, and I am recalling licorice, minor mocha, and some roasted, biscuit like quality.
Mouthfeel is overall, mild to medium, with no cloying.
Cheers
