Oakes (7030), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 23, 2007 Looks beautiful - jet black, loose tan head. Aroma is rich black malts, lots of grapefruit hops...reminiscent of St A. Sweetish flavour, but again with lots of citrusy hops, along with silky chocolate, light Vietnamese coffee. Gets a bit thin as it warms, but that’s about the only fault I could find. A lot like St A, only "foreign"-strength and obviously not made with Ringwood. CapFlu (3353), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Sep 10, 2007 (Draught) Sampled at the Great Canadian Beer Festival 2007 in Victoria on September 7th, 2007. Very hoppy stout, orangey. Piney nice flavour. I wouldn’t peg this for a stout considering the incredible hops tones. Other than the colour, you’d never think this was a stout beer. TipsyMcStager (830), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Oct 9, 2007 aroma of coffee and chocolate. pours opaque black, tan head. Smooth chocolate, slight bitter coffee. Hops in the finish. God bless those yetis. mnapier (10), Washington, USA May 14, 2008 Service Temperature, 45 degrees farenheit. Service Glassware, 12 ounce tulip.
Appearance, is a dark & dense with a salt & pepper accented, mild to medium, khaki foamy head, that leaves no lace behind.
Aroma, is a waft of roasted-ness and some mocha, and an air of subtle nuttiness.
A sip later, and I am recalling licorice, minor mocha, and some roasted, biscuit like quality.
Mouthfeel is overall, mild to medium, with no cloying.
Cheers goldtwins (3747), Nesconset, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Poured a very dark brown color with a large brown head. Fairly hoppy full of piny hops and dry cocoa. The flavor was fairly hoppy as well but this time more citrusy and a big milk chcocolate base. Hops come back lightly at the finish followed by a moderate bitterness. Light-medium body and some warmth.
