COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A deep brown/red color, moderately sweet and satisfying ale with a rich malty flavor derived from roasted and aromatic specialty malts, enhanced by the distinctive aroma of Pacific Northwest Cascade hops.Slightly less ‘heavy’ than traditional porter-style ale, Pick Axe Porter is surprisingly refreshing for a beer of its dark color

Bottle purchased at anchorage airport. Deep redish brown, skiff of cream colored head. Aroma is yeast and a bit of wet dog, but rich, dark fruits under, and toasted barley. Flavor is toasted barley, dark fruit, a bit of iron, with a little sweet. Finish is slightly bitter, coffee like. Palate is thin, but it’s just an everyday Porter, and as such very drinkable. Carbonation is a bit sharp for style.

Grumbler purchase from Breeze-IN, Juneau AK. This was poured into an English pint glass. The appearance was a nice hazy dark brown color with a one and a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within about thirty seconds. Light lacing stuck and then slid adequately around the glass. The smell had a nice roasty to sweet blend of chocolate malts and coffee beans. The taste copied the smell for the most part. There’s a light sticky sweet roasty coffee aftertaste leading into a dry sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat subdued but mostly good, nice rolling smoothness overlays itself on my tongue. Overall, I say this was a pretty good American Porter that I would have again.

Amber, aroma is nutty light coffee. Sweet front but the body does get lighter and drier. Decent cocoa and nutty malt complexity.

From a growler shared at the Beer Heads bottle share in Falls Church. Pours a clear cola brown with an ecru head. Light toasted nose. Nutty flavor.

Decent but unexceptional porter. It’s a nice dark brown color with a thin head and good amounts of lacing. The nose is mild with a bit of chocolate and a nutty overtone. This is a rather dry beer w/ a good smack of earthy hops. It is perhaps a bit ashy in the finish but otherwise I have no major complaints.

Bottle: Poured a deep black with a whisper off white to tan colored head. Aroma is a bold roasty malt. Taste is rich bakers chocolate and roasted malts, very smooth and drinkable.

Bottle. Very cark and clear amber color, small bright tan head. Aroma of coffee grounds and burnt cocoa. Taste is burnt Starbucks and a bit of dark cocoa. Tasty.
