DarkElf (2627), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 7, 2008 18-Jan-08 (Draft: 2008 Great Alaskan Beer and Barley Wine Festival in Anchorage, AK) Dry and roasty aroma dominates the nose with a light graininess and a little funk in the background. Roasty and chocolaty flavors on the palate with medium bitterness, but also a medium sweetness that’s not present in the nose. Nevertheless, the beer is dry on the palate with medium-full body and medium carbonation. Clear amber in color and capped by a tan head that settles to a wide bubbly ring and sprinkled sugar film. Fairly simple but enjoyable enough. jsquire (1848), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Jun 28, 2008 On tap at the ’08 GABBW. Clear amber color with a foamy beige head. Sweet caramel sugar nose. The taste had a malty graininess to it. Dark caramel sweetness with light bread and some orange zest hoppiness in the finish. Nothing wrong with this beer, but there was something about it just seemed average.
