On tap @ Gigs: Dark brown with some ruby highlights, 2 finger cap, laces the glass. Aroma is roasty but demure with some twiggy hop tones. Flavour has a tarditional Thuringa Schwartzbier profile - roasty up front, light bodied, noble hops bite, finish is clean, roasty and crisp. A very good rendition of the style, light, roasty, dry - Kostritzer couldn’t do better.

Black pour, beige head. Sweet roast aroma, milk chocolate, light hops. Good mouth feel, silky, soft carb. Sweet roasty finish, light bitterness, very easy drinking.

Bottle from Brew Box. Pitch black with light tan head. Strong aroma of toasted coffee and malt, hint of hops and trace if pine. Slightly bitter coffee, toast flavours with short hoppy taste. Not bad, not bad at all.

650 ml bottle bought at the brewery on June 25, 2015. Black, small head. Dry coffee malt aroma, lightly hoppy. The taste is more bitter sweet, light roasted coffee with some fruitiness, light bitterness. Very respectable flagship beer!

On tap. Light malt aroma. Pours dark with light brown foamy head. Roasted dark malt flavour with some light hops. Light body with a slight bite. Not that impressed.

Draft - Light roast malts and some pale malt sweetness. Deep brown with a nice beige head. Roast malts, vegative bitterness and almost a bit of farmhouse and manure in the finish. Toasty roast or toffee sweetness is not there. Odd long light bitter finish.

Scent of dark roasted malt. Opaque dark brown colour. Flavour of coffee, molasses, and chocolate. Full body with medium carbonation. Great beer.

Bottle (650 ml). BB 31-09-2014. Thanks to Andrew for this one! Black with a medium brown head and some lacing. Aroma is mild with roasted malt, liquorice and hints of dark fruits. Taste is also light with liquorice, roasted malt, dark fruits and gentle cocoa finish. Light to medium body. Moderate carbonation. Slightly silky mouthfeel. Short aftertaste. Nothing is "off" and it’s quite drinkable. A little more body could help, but it’s an interested Schwarzbier.

It is very similar to a Genius. It is full bodied. It was very enjoyable. This is a beer I would offer to my friends.

Tasted at Real Canadian Craft Beer Fest. Has a real roasted aroma and toasty that follows through on the palate. Lighter in body, but stylistically correct and fairly good and drinkable.
