3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft - Light roast malts and some pale malt sweetness. Deep brown with a nice beige head. Roast malts, vegative bitterness and almost a bit of farmhouse and manure in the finish. Toasty roast or toffee sweetness is not there. Odd long light bitter finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle (650 ml). BB 31-09-2014. Thanks to Andrew for this one! Black with a medium brown head and some lacing. Aroma is mild with roasted malt, liquorice and hints of dark fruits. Taste is also light with liquorice, roasted malt, dark fruits and gentle cocoa finish. Light to medium body. Moderate carbonation. Slightly silky mouthfeel. Short aftertaste. Nothing is "off" and it’s quite drinkable. A little more body could help, but it’s an interested Schwarzbier.

It is very similar to a Genius. It is full bodied. It was very enjoyable. This is a beer I would offer to my friends.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted at Real Canadian Craft Beer Fest. Has a real roasted aroma and toasty that follows through on the palate. Lighter in body, but stylistically correct and fairly good and drinkable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Again, thanks to Cantabrian for spoiling me with this offering from Canada.
This beer appears as black as sin in the glass, but for a faintly murky mahogany colour in the dimple of the glass. It also presented a good mocha head. The aroma was of muted charry roastiness with a dusting of ground coffee. It didn’t seem lagerish at all because of it’s slightly thicker body, it was more porter-like. It is a tasty number this one: dark and brooding with lingering bitterness.

Dark brown pour with a sizeable ehad. Fairly roasty aroma with some black liquorice peaking through. Roast up front, coffee, liquorice, cocoa powder, slightly fruity as well. Medium body.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Schwarzbier would be at least a misnomer, as this is much more exciting than anything I have seen in the style. I had a taster from the brewery, after the devastating news that I would not be finding the Oyster Stout anywhere in Niagara-on-lhe-Lake during my very brief visit. I can’t say much about a head, as this was a taster, but the colour was oily black, beautiful. Chocolate, plums and berries in the aroma, and just a very feeble, but very very feeble, metallic whiff of a lager. Flavour is nice and full of cocoa powder, with tobacco, vanilla and tart berries, with no ashes or roasted chars, so typical of black lagers. It makes a lovely creamy palate, in spite of the rather thin <-> medium body. The finish is nice and bitter, without a hint of roasts. Considering that we have a dark lager that tastes like a porter, I’d say this is a damn farking good Baltic Porter. Loved it – and taking back a bottle to New Zealand to share with Ratebeer friends.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle that was a gift from Guillaume. Thanks! Aged ~6-8 months. Pours a cloudy black with a tiny beige head. Aroma: malt, raisin, caramel, kind of like a doppelbock. Palate: medium bodied, fizzy, smooth. Taste: sweet start, quickly turning to a rough burnt nut flavour, possibly indicating that has been aged too long. Still awesome and delicious.
