Black color; small head. Light aroma of roasted malts. Dry and lean mouthfeel; nice moderate roastiness; correct bitterness.
Balanced, good.

A dark brown lager with a thick brown head. In aroma, nice grassy chocolate with herbal hops. In mouth, a nice grassy chocolate with light herbaceous hops, well made.

So-so shwartz. Enjoyed at Wvrst. Black bodied, with lots of lace. Like a nitro beer, as missing taste, kind of watered down sweet with licorice finish. Basic roast taste. Would like more body.

Tap at Burger Bar. Pitch black pour with a tight lasting off-white head. Sticky lacing. The nose is lovely. Soft roast over a little bit of toasted malt. Medium-bodied but nicely clean. There is a nice toastiness tha works. No complaints about this one. It's a fine schwarzbier. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2012-07-27. Black with a nice tan head and lace. Dry roasty aroma has fruity espresso like character. 6+ Flavour has similarly fruity and roasty flavour. Finishes quite dry with lingering dry fruity character of coffee grounds. Average palate is okay, but too thin to support the beer. Very much not to my taste, too dry and roasty. On tap at Volo as "Black Lager", Toronto

[4623-20120727] Tap. Smoked nutty coffee grounds aroma. Black body has a red hue with a quick foamy light brown head. Tart coffee roasted nut malt flavour. Full body. Interesting but a little heavy on the roast. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

On tap at Cest What?: Aroma: dry roast , clean with decent roast , some balk tea. Tad too estery for lager. 6+
Apperance: dark brownish-black. Lighter white top. Rather flat looking. 3-
Taste/Palate etc. Medium bodied. Strong coffee like roast feel , semi dry. Softer follow-up. There is some of Schwartz in this beer , yet tad to soft on sides with its creamy walls.

Cask at Cask Days 2012. Twenty-seventh beer of the fest. Pours a very dark brown with red hues and an average size bubbly tan head. Malty aroma, lightly roasted, along with light hops and hints of vanilla and chocolate. Nice chocolaty flavour, also lightly roasted -- simple but pleasant. Average bodied. Really good.

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2012 September 14, 2012 - at Volo on draught. Clear ruby-black with a decent fizzy/foamy beige head. Odd aroma of stale coffee and grapeskins, some herbal bitterness, not much alcohol presence - taste follows, a bit fruitier and less dry roast, the coffee character seems less acidic. Average body, decent carbonation, finishes fairly quickly, dry, with re-emerging slightly sour coffee notes overwhelming any grape/prune fruitiness - did not seem to have enough balancing bitterness, to my palate.

Draft - Light roast malts and some pale malt sweetness. Deep brown with a nice beige head. Roast malts, vegative bitterness and almost a bit of farmhouse and manure in the finish. Toasty roast or toffee sweetness is not there. Odd long light bitter finish.
