Pours black with decent head. Smells a little coffeeish. Palate is very light, typical of style. There’s some coffee in the head, a little bitterness in the front of the taste but almost no aftertaste. Very typical of style. On tap at volos.

Bottle (650 ml). BB 31-09-2014. Thanks to Andrew for this one! Black with a medium brown head and some lacing. Aroma is mild with roasted malt, liquorice and hints of dark fruits. Taste is also light with liquorice, roasted malt, dark fruits and gentle cocoa finish. Light to medium body. Moderate carbonation. Slightly silky mouthfeel. Short aftertaste. Nothing is "off" and it’s quite drinkable. A little more body could help, but it’s an interested Schwarzbier.

On tap at the Only Cafe. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasty malt and nuts. Flavour is moderately roasty dark malt and a decent nuttiness. Medium body. Ok.

Tap, pours a nice black, aroma is light roasty, flavour at first seemed minimal but I as I worked through the pint it became smooth and very drinkable with a really nice back bone of a roasty brew. I got a nice flavourful beer. Decent offering

on tap at imbibe in kitchener, dark brownwith a tan head. nice light roast nose, simple. flavour is a little oxidized, firm malt body, a little under hopped. certainly a drinkable Schwarzbier, probably not in the best condition. this is one i will have to retry.

Pint on tap at The Griffin in Bracebridge. Black, with a small brown head. Certainly a big aroma for a lager, with lots of roast. The same can be said of the flavour, where cocoa powder joins the roast. Light sweetness. Great body for the style. Probably the best schwartzbier I’ve tied.

Keg at loose moose Toronto. Dark reddy brown colour. Pleasant roasty sweet aroma. It's decent - caramel, roast malts, some fruit, a touch of coffee but still fairly light. Nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Again, thanks to Cantabrian for spoiling me with this offering from Canada. This beer appears as black as sin in the glass, but for a faintly murky mahogany colour in the dimple of the glass. It also presented a good mocha head. The aroma was of muted charry roastiness with a dusting of ground coffee. It didn’t seem lagerish at all because of it’s slightly thicker body, it was more porter-like. It is a tasty number this one: dark and brooding with lingering bitterness.

On tap @ Gigs: Dark brown with some ruby highlights, 2 finger cap, laces the glass. Aroma is roasty but demure with some twiggy hop tones. Flavour has a tarditional Thuringa Schwartzbier profile - roasty up front, light bodied, noble hops bite, finish is clean, roasty and crisp. A very good rendition of the style, light, roasty, dry - Kostritzer couldn’t do better.

On tap at Imbibe, Kitchener. Clear dark reddish brown with a tiny beige surface film. Aroma: nice roasted malt character with pretty much nothing else going on except maybe I little bit of coffee. Flavour: Roasted malt, mildly sweet malt aspects, maybe a hint of dark fruits and chocolate, but those aspects are very faint. Feels light and with a weird sour note that seems off. Everyone around me loved this but it unfortunately just did not do much for me.
