COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Born in 1928, Simeon Jones left the family farm in the St. John River Valley as a young man and travelled to Saint John, finding employment in a brewery. He had a flare for business and soon owned the company. The ale he brewed was known throughout the Maritimes for its hearty, robust flavour and glowing amber colour. Eventually Jones was elected mayor of Saint John where he was long remembered as one of the finest men to ever hold that office. Always a gentleman, he was respected for his generosity, charity and kindness. Today Northampton Brewing Company produces this fine ale in the tradition of Simeon Jones, unsurpassed in quality and flavour.

Clear copper colour, malt and floral aroma. Suttle caramel flavor. A bit of a tart finish. This is a great beer to have with pizza or nachos...but by itself, I would go with Picaroon’s best bitter or the red from the same brewery.

Pours a clear light amber color with a white head that dissipates quickly and leaves lite lace. Smell is of cereal and pale malts. Taste is of cereal and malt with a smooth moderate bitter finish. If this beer had more body it sod be excellent. Too thin.

This ale poured a deep amber colour with a nice, big, off white coloured head. A little lacing in the glass. To the nose there are scents of sweet ripe fruit, apple cider and very light scent of malt vinegar. First sip had a med/high carbonation with flavours of ripe fruit, smoke and toast. Finish is lightly bitter with malt lingering.

Draft at the Saint John Ale House. Poured with a good solid head that lingered. Bit of lacing on the sides of the glass. Beer was clear, but colour lighted from a deep brown to a bright orange amber as I drank and more light could penetrate the glass. Taste was a good balance between sweet and bitter, but there was something else I couldn’t quite put my finger on that was tangy or a little sour. Body was medium with good carbonation. Overall, solid but not outstanding.

500 ml bottle from NBLC. Pours nice dark amber, almost copper in colour, big frothy off white head. Aroma and taste are primarily Maris Otter-ish malt. Not bad.

Bought this one in Edmonston, N.B. when I was on tour with my band (summer 2009 and rated January 2010). Huge off-white head that is foamy and disappears at a medium pace, leaving some small traces of lacing. Its colour is golden-orange and hazy, with good amounts of carbonation. The aroma is pretty fruity, with some sweet malt and light hop. Fizzy mouthfeel and light-bodied. The taste is pretty tame with some grain malt, not even tasting the caramel malt expected. Over-carbonated amber ale that is only good to remember one of Saint John’s best mayor.

500ml bottle. Pours clear, deep amber with eggshell head. Slightly sweet malt on the nose with an underlying funk that’s like freshly rotten egg. Much better taste; dominant slightly sweet cereal grain with a hint of fruit and a little roasted note. A little thinner than you’d like on the palate.

500 ml bottle from Alcool NB Liquor. Pours a clear bright orange/amber with moderate-sized off-white head. Caramel, light roastiness and light fruitiness in the aroma. Taste is caramel and bread with very mild roastiness and some lasting fruitiness. Light body and fairly active carbonation. Refreshing and fairly pleasant.
