COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

341. Yep, that’s what it says. Thanks, Dany! Pours nearly black with a loose, thin dark tan head. Massive fumee nose--lots of campfire and beef jerky, rather salty and very pleasant. Creamy medium body with silky carb. Roasty, toasty, smoky, full of campfire, bacon, and beef jerky. Yummy beer.

Bouteille 341ml.

Bottle, served extra cold at Le Trèfle. Black body with very small head. Intense aroma of smoke, wood and maple. There was also some dark fruits and molasses. Palate was nice. Taste is a little too sweet (mollasses, caramel, brown sugar) with some wood and dark fruitsCarbonation was kept to a minimum, mouthfeel is powdery and you can feel the alcohol warmth in the finish. The body isn’t too thick unlike the previous Calumet. Nice beer, one of the best of Simple Malt with Golding and Imperial Stout.

Bottle via Glouglouburp, Muchas Gracias! Pours a deep mahogany, but settled in the glass several shades darker with a ring of grayish-tan head. Nose is evidentally smokey, some ash, tar, and meaty edges and a lagery tone to it. Smokiness is somewhat less evident in the flavors, but still at the forefront of the experience. carbonation is somewhat prickly. Body is a bit on the thin side so the smokey flavors don’t have a lot to hold on to...but there still nice in of themselves...just which there was a maltier, thicker background for them to cling to...and not sure if this is bottom fermented, but it comes across as such to me. Alcohol is nicely hidden though warming...decent smoked beer though.

Pours a bold deep blackish brown with tan cap. Smells a bit of smoke, herb and sweet malt. Taste some nice fireplace-wood smokiness countered by sweet dark malt and fruit. Liquorice and green herbal flavors on the top of the palate, solid sticky feel. Real good!

Bottle - 341ml. Pours an opaque black body with low carbonation and a thin beige foamy head. Strong, complex malty/hoppy aroma with caramel, smoky, and chocolate hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Its sharp, robust taste carries smoky, woody, and roasted coffee notes. Ends with a long, warming bitter/roasty finish. Well done.

Bottled sample via and shared with oakbluff. Dark brown in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas are of woodsmoke, salty molasses, and creosote. Lots of smoke in the mouth, backed by notes of caramel, wood, pale malt, and ash. Medium bodied with a fairly long finish. Seems a bit less refined than its predecessor Grand Chef, but still a nice smoke filled beverage.

341ml bottle from Metro Sabrevois.
Appearance : Deep brown with a small creamy brown head. No lacing.
Aroma : Nice woody smoke. Notes of liquorice and caramel/maple syrup. Very woody. Nice !
Taste : Roasted malt and light smoke. Woody finish with some caramel and molasses. Finish dry and a bit warm. Light bitterness too. Notes of chocolate on the finish. Some coffee too. Light notes of ashes on the finish.
Overall : Great aroma. I like the woody type smoke better than the smoked ham of bacon type. Not too smoky. Nice sweetness on the nose mixed with the smoke. Very nice beer. Quite drinkable with a soft carbonation.

Acquired in a trade with SlovakSniper. Thanks Pat. Almost black with a short-lived brown head. The aroma is roast and smoke, with a little burnt caramel. The flavour is wood smoke, bitter green herbs, and a little chocolate to round it off. The smoke fades, and a little stewed pear joins as the beer warms. These things generally aren’t terribly complex, are they? But this one’s not bad.
