COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ode aux malts fumés. Sa spirale maltée sucrée, où s’entrecroisent caramel, tire d’érable et soupçon de mélasse, est fidèlement soutenue par l’apport de la fumée du bois d’hêtre.

trade with Fred82-THANKS!-341 ml bottle-pours a tan head that reduces to a ring with dark brown color. Aroma is smoke, medium/dark malt, some band aid pheynols. Taste is smoke, medium/dark malt, 2nd earthy hops and some band aid pheynols still come through. Medium body. Even with the one drawback, an enjoyable beer.

Bottle. Deep brown-black pour with a thin tan head. The aroma is a little bit sweet and sticky. A roasted dark malt character along with a touch of sweet smokiness and some rich bittersweet chocolate character. There is a heavy earthy bitterness along with the roast and smoke. Great balance of soft roast and smoke with a soft cocoaish sweetness through the middle of the palate. Oily and rich and very tasty. I’m a fan.

Massive black body and dark brown head.Thick, oily body and mouthfeel. Just too much smoke to get through it, some burnt parts. Good for what it is, imperial smoke.

My Bottom Line:
Wooden smoke and licorice-like fruitiness delve into molasses and dry roastiness for an elegant, strong smoked ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam recedes to a ring atop the ebony.
-The smoke is prominent, while never reaching levels of the Schlenkerlas of this world. This is also not as smoky as the Bièropholie Calumet Grand Chef, for example.
-Not much complexity is gotten from the malts (light caramel, no chocolate), apart from the smokiness, of course.
-This is not your typical Imperial Porter or Imperial Stout base brewed with some smoked malts. This is a creature all its own.
-Alcohol is masterfully hidden.
-The body is substantial while never being too sweet.
-This is clearly not the same recipe as the Bièropholie Calumet Grand Chef...

Bottle.

2011-11-24. Nice black body with a small creamy tan head. Smokey aroma, modes malt note hint at a malty richness below, but the smoke dominates. Flavour is less smokey than expected from the aroma, cocoa and chocolate like accents, mild dark malt core. Smokey roasty bitterness lingers in the finish. 6+ Smooth average plus to medium palate. 3+ Pretty solid, and not intensely smokey but just enough to put me off. Smoke fans will enjoy it much more. Bottle thanks to Arch and glouglouburp. Pours black. Brown head. Nose of smoke, BBQ pork, ash pit, roast chocolate malt and vanilla beans and coffee. Taste is smoke, chalky ash, BBQ pit, chocolate and roast coffee. Body on the thinner side. Tasty.

Bottle at a small tasting with Max, Paul, and Andy. Pours a clear dark cola brown with a thin white head. Smoke and a touch of roast on the nose, a touch of burnt tire. Medium bodied, loads of smoke in the body, smooth and smoky. Long roast and smoke on the finish.
