COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

[Bottle (750ml) shared with GregClow, HogTownHarry, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o j&m] Pours black with an average size long-lasting frothy brown head. Nice aroma with lots of coffee, roasted malt, hops and chocolate. Flavour follows the aroma and does it intensely -- I really like it but it would be hard to drink this whole bottle alone. Medium bodied. Like I said, intense but really good.

2015-01-30. Thick black body is headless after a vigorous pour. 3+ Aroma is intense with lots of dry malt and coffee like roast over sweet dark malt. 6+ Flavour is similar, dry bitter roast oddly fruity, rich malt core, lingering bitterness in the finish. 7+ Rich full bodied palate, light carbonation. Pretty intense, not always in a good way. Interesting but not really to my tastes as I find the roast character not to my own liking. Others will likely enjoy it more than me. Bottle via trade with Boutip.

On tap at Isle de Garde. Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Wood and vanilla over big chocolate and cocoa. Tart acid and chewy brownies, roast and a bit of funk. Cocoa, chocolate, tartness, roast, cherries. Interesting stuff.

500 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown-black with a deep mocha head. Aroma: Deep, dark black strap molasses, dark chocolate and a little black coffee, so thick, rich and inky, grape jelly and other dark fruitiness, huge. Palate: Medium-full body, creamy carbonation. Flav.: Huge amounts of very dark malt, so much molasses, dark chocolate and black coffee, peppery and dank, really big; somewhat sweet with big bitterness and a very long, dark, inky and somewhat powdery finish of dark chocolate, coffee and black strap molasses.

A masterpiece.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry coffee notes with some astringent roasted malt with some nice black chocolate notes also noticeable. Taste is dominated by astringent roasted malt with nice black chocolates notes and a spicy finish. Body is full with nice creamy texture with good carbonation and light warming alcohol. This is an extreme imperials stout which retain just enough drinkability. I must admit I preferred the barrel-aged version which had less rough edges.

Drank on tap (12 oz) at the Saint-Houblon brewpub in Montreal on December 7, 2014. Black, medium beige head. Smoked barley malt aroma, nice licorice notes. The taste is about the same, just more fruity, dry bitter coffee aftertaste. Very solid imperial stout with little alcohol aftertaste!

(Rating #5845)

Black is it can be, with a nice dark brown head. Strong coffee, dark chocolate roast, burned toast, resinous hops, some alcohol. Taste is sweet, nearly no bitter. Lively carbonation for a RIS, oily and quite astringent. Like drinking a strong cold coffee with a good chocolate on the side! Good be a little more complex thought.
