Note from the brewer: this is not made to be an American Strong Ale or anything else. It’s made to be a kind of barley-based port-like brew with very little carbonation, just enough to protect it against oxydation.

Flip top bottle. Poured a dark brown color with an off white head. Cherries, dark fruits, chocolate, and some earthy / woodiness. Light alcohol in the finish.

500 ml. from St. Hubert. Sour fruit, overall not too sour because of the malting, also smoke and peat . Lacey, with a spore looking head on a brown body. A strong brown meets a scotch meets a fruit beer. Fruit in the finish: cherries, dates, caramel. Fairly full bodied.

My Bottom Line:
Cherries, black grapes and figs uplift this sipper’s chocolate and wooden smoke, sculpting a refined, balanced expérience.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the purple-laced dark brown.
-The finish is rather short and forgettable.
-Carbonation makes this easy to drink despite the potency.
-Alcohol is very well hidden.
-This is not as sweet as expected.

pours clear dark brown, red tint, with a small cap, little retention. lots of cherries here, decent caramel, chocolate, dattes, woodiness. boozy - guess it’s normal here. soft carbonation, medium body, decent grassy hopping. lightly acidic and bitter finish. ok.

My 4600th rating! Bottle [500ml] courtesy of Glouglouburp. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with an average size quick-diminishing fizzy off-white head. Nice aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, dark fruit, brown sugar, chocolate, some sourness, wood, light smoke and more. Smooth (for the abv) flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, slightly sour dark fruit, wood, light brown sugar and caramel. Alcohol is there in the aroma but it’s pretty well hidden in the flavour. Average to medium bodied, slightly sticky mouthfeel. It’s quite good, with lots going on, but it’a not as good as I expected.

(Rating #4111)

500ml swing-top bottle shared with garthicus for his 2000th rating. Thin looking ruby-black with an average diminishing head. Smells fruity, oily, roasty, with hints of fruitcake, molasses and alcohol. Taste follows, but sweeter. Slightly thin body, a bit boozy, quite sticky .... I liked it, but tgis would never be a "pint please!" brew for me.

In short: A liquorish fruity dark sipper. Decent.
How: Swing-top 500ml bottle, consumed many months after purchase.
The look: Dark burgundy body topped by a beige ring of foam.
In long: The medium intensity nose is malty and a tiny bit smoky and I noted dark fruits, raisin pie and other fruity desserts. In mouth the beer has a thick body with a liquorish texture and a low carbonation, adequate sipper mouthfeel. Taste is raisins wrapped in caramel, dates covered with chocolate, dark cherries pie, other stuff that make you fat. High sweetness sensation and medium alcohol presence. Overall it is not all that fruity for a beer classified as a Fruit Beer on ratebeer. Sweet sippers is not exactly my type of beer but this one was ok. A beer simply named after the 19th letter in the alphabet, and I’m still amazed at how convenient it is that our abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz alphabet was created already sorted in alphabetical order.
