GothGargoyle (1112) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 29, 2013
Bottled shared at Borefts 2013 by some guys from Finland - thanks! Black with a small beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, spruce, liquorice. Medium bodied, bittersweet on the palate with a slightly astringent aftertaste. Taste is roasted grains, dark fruits, coffee. A little disappointing, would like the spruce & maple to be more prominent.

esox (1014) - Oulu, FINLAND - SEP 26, 2013
Dark brown, almost black beer with a creamy tan head. Rather intense aroma dark, slightly burned sugars, sour bread, a hint of dried fruits and a herbal touch of hops. Medium sweet, malty flavor with slightly sugary start. Roasted malts and burned sugars arise in the finish crating a nice mixture of bready and dark chocolatey flavors. The hops intensify towards the finish and it gets slightly woody in the end. This woody note probably comes from the spruce extract being used. This Lingering aftertaste has a touch of alcohol. Medium body, oily texture. It almost is a bit thin for the strength, probably because of the maple syrup. Really enjoyable version of this classic Finnish porter.
