3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Colonial Spirits
Pours a solid black color with a smallish tan head that dissipates to a small cap. The aroma is heavy with charred wood, and vinous oxidation, supported by dark fruits, smoke and dark chocolate. Little to no hop aroma or alcohol presence. The flavor is a hint of sweet sugar up front that quickly becomes smokey with light fruits and a bit of wine like flavor. A charred ashy flavor sweeps in and lingers long into the finish of every sip. Medium body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a full almost gritty mouthfeel. Big burnt fruity Baltic porter. I warmed up to it after a while, but it is not my favorite example of the style.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Refrigerated 33 cl brown bottle poured into snifter. Pours black with dark brown highlights and small light brown head. Nice dark chocolate aroma, medium body, low carbonation, and some thin small bubble lacing. Taste is rich chocolate, some roasty, earthy hop balance, and dry coffee finish. Not a big fan of the dry finish, but pretty good.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2013 Pour is perfect and aroma is coffee and chocolate. Flavor strongly resembles Guinness, but is much less filling. Palate is somewhat oily rather than thick. Outstanding.

I never thought a Baltic Porter would get any better than a Carnegie. But here it is. Finnish, but it sounds Swedish, just like my favourite band Finntroll. This was a bottle, from one of the retailers in Miami. I had it under the lovely Florida air conditioning interiors, and I can only dream of what it is when consumed in a Nordic winter. The beer pours like Aztec chocolate sauce, dark brown pure iodine, with a beautiful creamy head on top. Perfect also on the aroma of black currants/Crème de cassis, blackberries, dark chocolate, and a hint of vanilla. The flavour is just so farking perfect too, with dark, bitter chocolates, caramel, dulce de leche, honey, liquorice, tart berries and a touch of yogurt sourness. There’s a bitterness that balances perfectly against this baccanalle of sweetness, never allowing it to be cheap or cloying. The beer is creamy, velvety, thick and silky on the tongue. Perfect in every single aspect. Sinebrychoff Koff Porter… this beer would get a full five if I ever decided that a beer could deserve a full five.
