Opaque brown/black with a good brown head and a full lace coating. This is porter the way porter is supposed to be: Burnt roasted caramel malt with a cleansing bitter at the finish. The taste is big, the mouthfeel is big and rich, and there is none of the yuppie chocolate/coffee stuff going on (a nice change!). Overall, a great porter, especially at 6.2%. Hikghly recommended. Earlier Rating: 11/7/2011 Total Score: 3.6 Dark brown/black with a dark head and good lacing. Taste is strong roasted malt with a short burst of chocolate/coffee, followed by a long-lasting clean-the-palate finish. Solid brew.

33cl bottle from Matias. Very dark brown with a generous creamy mocha head that settles down a bit and lasts for quite a while - very nice to look at. Nice roasted malt without overwhelming, light smoke and cocoa, medium roast coffee. Silky moderate carbonation, full body, hint of sweetness but quickly turns into a bittersweet chocolate taste (almost bakers chocolate) with a bit of alcohol and becomes very dry with a nice toast finish.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Migmar (65) - Hohhot, CHINA - AUG 10, 2012
Old Finnish classic, considered by many the best beer in Finland. Indeed, it is very rich in flavour: smoky, bread-like, hint of chocolate and coffee. Full body, medium bitterness. It’s a rich and complex porter, although if my memory serves right it was even better in the past: a strange vegetablish quality has recenty entered the mix.

Bottle at bar. Black color, beige head. Strong roasty taste with chocolate, liquorice, coffee, plum and alcohol. Roasty, long-lasting finish. Excellent porter.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2012 Very dense head dampens aromas. Smelling is much easier once this is gone at least partly. Bit roasted and slightly sweet aroma has licorice and coffee, bit syrup and dark ripe fruits. Color is black, head is dense, light brown and quite long, leaves lacing also. Taste is dryer and more roasted than aroma, almost burnt, also bitterness here balancing, chocolate here is dark, black currant in flavor but not in aroma. Medium body, oily feel, long dry and roasted smooth finish. Lots of taste and character in this one, good balance. Quite roasted and dry. I enjoyed.

Black colored with dense white head. Smells chocolate and coffee, tastes a little sweet chocolate. Nicely balanced bitterness. Very good choice.

Pours a very dark brown color with a small head that quickly fades. Rich chocolatey aroma to go with coffee and roasted malt. Tastes delicious, very chocolately. Slightly sweet, slightly bitter, nicely balanced. Earthy hops come through in the very smooth chocolate finish. A great porter.

11.2 OZ bottle. Pours black with a brown, foamy, long lasting head and a lot of lacing. Aroma is of toasted malt, bread crust, coffee, and hints of chocolate. Body is medium and smooth. Toasted malt, burnt grain, coffee, prunes and dark chocolate fill the mouth. Finish is medium and slightly bitter. Easy drinking porter.

Bottle @ The BeerMongers... Poured near black with a thick, light brown head. Nose had roast, cocoa, toasted grains and a faint hop character. Mild body with a nutty roast, mocha, roasted grains, malt sweetness, worty tone, and a touch of hop flavors. This was complex and drinkable, and an awesome price tag for sure.

Finally I’ve got my hands on this classic. Thanks a lot Rune, for the treat! Pours entirely black, coverd by a dense light brown cap of laceing head. Clean and rounded malt aroma featuring milk chocolate, mild coffee and hints of dark tinned fruits and ash. Creamy mouthfeel, medium body strenght. Taste is well roasted, yet rounded dark malts. More milk chocolate, notes of cold coffee, dark caramel. A light and refined sweetness and some balancing bittering hops underneath. A lovely beer, top end Baltic Porter.
