4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Keg on tap at The Poshoorn, Maastricht. Black with tan head. This beer seemed to be the guest beer in several Maastricht pubs on the day, a great find. Full of heavily roasted malt giving strong coffee notes with chocolate malt bitterness, in fact intensely bitter. On the beer warming up a slight tartness developed giving further depth. Yum.

330ml bottle poured a nearly opaque reddiish black wiyh a long lasting brown head. Aromas of dark chocolate, some vinous notes, a bit of coffee and a hint of smoke. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, and a hint of smoke with a smooth, lingering bittersweet finish.

Tap, Café Morshuis Albergen. Almost opague with a grey, lasting head. Roast bitter flavor with a pleasant raspberry fruitiness. Just a bit thin. Roast bitter aftertaste. Not a very rich Baltic porter but very tasty.

Same batch as Capflu, best before June 27, 2003, but bought in Indianapolis. Deep dark beer with perfect thick intimidating moka head. Light chocolate aroma with some fruitiness, and demara sugar. Chocolate malt like malted balls, with coffee finish. Caramle squares is a good descriptive Todd! Not exactly oily but does fill your tastebuds! Yummy.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours jet black with a thick brown head, enough of which hangs around for some good lacing. Aromas are sweet malt and licorice with a nose of plum and raisins. Sweetly bitter flavor with coffee and plum hints. Slight metallic feel on the palate, otherwise a full-bodied porter. Paired very well with a spicy meal.

UPDATED: APR 15, 2009 Keg (St. Urho’s, Helsinki).
The Baltic Porter style is basically the Imperial Stout of old, and this is a perfect example. Heavy oily roasted aroma, but not enough to prepare you for the huge smack in the gob when you first taste it. Sweet, spicey, coffee, malty by the bucketload, with crisp bitter notes, and a sharpness from the carbonation that almost makes this 7.2%-er "refreshing". All of the above is well balanced I must add, which might be due to it being top-fermented.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottled: Deep black coloured. Has a small chocolatebrown head. Liquorice, malt, fruits, roastyness and chocolate notes in the nose. Roasted coffee, fruits and a light bitterness in the flavour. A light liquorice touch. The alcahol is superply hidden. The flavours are well balanced. This beer kind of grows when you drink it. Man this was worth waiting for. It kind of took a long way from Finland over Evansville, Indiana to Copenhagen. Thanks Raindog.
