Pours black with a medium-high head. Big bubbles. Very common roasty aroma with hints of coffee and chocolate. Taste is mostly coffee and roasted malts. Slippery. Slightly hoppy after taste.

0,33 pullo@ St.Urho. syvän ruskea ja samea. Tuoksussa paahteisuutta vahvasti, mutta ei hyökkäävästi. Maku paahteinen mallas, hiukan kirpeä, ei liian paksu vaan kevyehkö.

Great flavors of burnt caramel and chocolate which unfortunately is taken down a bit of a pushy alcohol taste.

330 ml bottle. A black beer with no head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, liquorice and alcohol. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, dried fruit, liquorice and a bitter coffee finish. Full body, with a creamy, oily texture and flat carbonation.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours dark brown/black with a dense brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, light ash and smoke. Taste is medium bitter roasted with ash and a light/medium licorice and malty sweetness. Medium bodied, average carbonation.

Tar black. Medium head, colored like pepparkaksdeg. Smooth mouthfeel. Smoky dominance. Hops and herbs, prunes and licorice root, syrup and bitter chocolate. Somewhat acidy, but not too much. Sweet.

Kind of a boring, straightforward take on the style, roasty and more stoutlike in flavor than most Baltic Porters I’ve had, but with the body that is typical of the style. Tasty and certainly worth the 3 bucks I spent, but not nearly as delicious as the peak beers in the style.

Pour out of bottle, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of caramel, roast, ashy, coffee notes, hints of dark cocoa, slight yeast, touch of grain. Taste is a mix of some slight roast, cardboard, ashy, cardboard, slight yeast, finishing fairly bitter, slightly sweet.

Pours a very dark brown with a short-lived, but mocha colored head. Very pungent smoky olive nose. Not quite as thick as expected, but smooth. Fruity, chocolate covered raisins, and prunes. Prune gets progressively bitter at the finish.

Purchased at Binny’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed after my first visit to the nordic countries. I couldn’t find this Finnish brew when I was in Sweden, but sure enough they have it in Chicago, hence I bought it. Appearance is a thick pitch black with a light tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of chocolate malt, light molasses, light cough syrup. Taste goes down with a syrupy chocolate flavor, light burn, light hop profile, overall a decent baltic porter. There was dust on the bottle, therefore I’m concerned it’s not as fresh, but it’s still pretty good.
