3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Well it set itself just perfect. Black, tan foam sheeting up through a creamy body, smelled a bit like coffee from further away. Then I nosed in and there was something very interesting in there -- a bit of sasparilla and then the rest of a good porter. Roasty, malty honts of cacao, coffee. The texture and sweetness are just about perfect. If Jen wasn’t so good at detecting high wort temp errors this would’ve tasted even better.

From El Kabong’s kitchen (what kind of handle is that, Hal?). A very busy porter from the rootbeer and caramel openign notes through the more interesting fruity and chocolate tones on into a alkalinity that I don’t care much for.

Dark, thin head. I can't really taste any chocolate or coffee. Enjoyable, but not amazing.

Deep black color with a viscous quality. Sweet, alcoholy flavor. Tastes a little like syrup. Rich, deep chocolate flavor with some mild bitterness. Very good.

Has an aroma of sweetened motor oil (which is a bad thing) and similar appearance (which is a good thing). Flavors are very complex, but too 'peppy' for me. No consistent theme: I taste coffee, dark berries, roasted wood, lots of malt, and I don't know what else. I'd like this better if it was less complex and equally bitter, or less bitter and equally complex.

Inky, oily black in the glass with a small but lasting mocha head. Raisins, prune, tangy licorice (treacle?), and pinesap in the nose. Smells become fruitier as it warms. Tastes of darkest roasted grain, espresso, unsweetened chocolate, and broad earthy bitterness. Long finish with these same flavors, ends somewhat chalky. Actually seems more bitter afterward, like charcoal.

Black in colour with a small off white head. Aromas of sweet malt, dark berry fruit, and a bit of soy. Flavors of prune dominate along with notes of black licorice and a bit of iron. Nice mouthfeel. Less "bright" fruit than I had expected, and quite dominant alcohol presence as well.

a nice solid porter. A lot thicker and darker then I was expecting, but I think i was just happy that this beer washed the hop flavor out of my mouth.

Bottle, thanks Harry. Black pour, small tan head. Mild acidity and chocolate in aroma. Thin mouthfeel. Really acidic taste, roasted as well - a nice porter balance. I found it even too thin for the style though. Strong lingering roasted chocolate in finish. A pretty decent but not mind blowing porter that aged decently.
