Erzengel (3554) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - OCT 24, 2014

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2014 Swing-top bottle, bought at the brewery (I was so lucky to get one of the last crates on Open Monument Day on Sept. 8 when the brewery was open for the public). - Very low carbonation. Starts with an attack of biting fresh hops with powerful grapefruit aromas on a solid rock-bed of good malt with a very light honey sweetness in the background. Very long, extremely bitter finish. - Simply stunning! This beer is hoppier than any other German beer I drank so far, including the best Kellerbiers. On the other side, the hops are rather rustic and lack the refined aromas of German noble hops. Nevertheless, a good beer.

Wiederholung: Vom Faß im Biergarten der Museumsbrauerei Schmitt, 17.7.2014. - Goldgelb, klar.

0.5 l bottle, thanks Timo A! Hazy pale yellow color. Sweet honeyish aroma with tart fruitiness and sweat. Honeyish and bitter flavor with herbal, sweaty and slighly tannic hops. Rustic taste, probably not in best condition (BB Oct 2012).

Swing top 500ml (vPBF, BB 10/2012)
Thanks Timo A! Clear golden color, small white head. Very strong herbal, grassy hoppyness. Light bodied. Grassy, herbal hoppyness. A bit weak on malt side, but as it is only 4.8 % it is acceptable. Long herbal aftertaste. Decent pils.

50 cl bottle, BBE 02.10.2012?
Aroma is grainy with some grassy hops. Flavour is slightly tart and sour with grassy hops, some butter, hints of citron and grainy malt. Also some distant cellar notes. Decent. the sourness disturbs here.

50 cl bottle @ TimoA.
Pours pale clear golden color with small head. Aroma of grass, faint smoke, honey and toffee, a bit mead-like aroma. Flavor of lemon, hay, toffee, some caramel notes and mild sourish fruits on the aftertaste. A bit watery palate with a dryish bitter finish.

500 ml bottle. Thanks Timo A.
Pours an unclear golden colour with a white head. Aroma of grainy malts, floral notes and some hayish notes. Flavour of strong grainy malts, floral notes, grassy hops and some tart-like elements. Finishes tart, grainy and light grassy. Maybe past it’s prime, but would be awesome when as fresh as possible.

Blond color, clean. The aroma is mild, with light malt and some earthiness that reminds me more of an English Ale with a Southern yeast touch, than a Pilsner. Decent malt flavor, with a correct body strength, followed by a quite strong bitterness; all with a light vegetables impression. The final is quite strong.
Strange but not bad.
