COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A premium lager beer brewed from the finest ingredients, Singha is a full-bodied 100% barley malt beer that is distinctively rich in taste with strong hop characters. Brewed with three hops: Saaz, Perle and Hallertau. Editorís Note: Recipe scaled down from 6% to 5% in 2007.

(21.3 oz bottle: $1.99 at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA) Pours a very tall and fluffy, white head, at least 2 inches in height, so itíll be awhile before I can take a sip. The beer is medium-straw in color and has near-perfect clarity. A few unfocused streams of carbonation bubbles make their way slowly to the beerís surface, but nothing too crazy. The aromatic nose is spicy and grassy, so much so that whatever malt aromas there might be, I canít really notice them. No defects like skunk or cardboard in the nose either. Similarly, the flavor is grassy, spicy and mildly bitter, with the malt base not having much impact except in contributing a noticeable sweetness. Body is light, but very clean and refreshing in spite of the sweet finish. The head fades to a thin, filmy layer and leaves no lacing on the glass. Quite a tasty beer for a straw-colored lager, one that I think would be great to quell the spiciness of Asian food.

Bottle. Golden colour with a white head. Fruity malt aroma. Flavour is fruity malt.

Bottle. Pours clear yellow with a reasonable white head. Aroma is fairly weak, mainly of a bit of nondescript sweet malt. Flavor is similar. Basically tastes like most other Asian lagers; on par with the Japanese macrobrews, but maybe slightly better than most.

Bottle 66cl. Poured a dark amber, with a decent white head that actually lasts until the end (unlike most Asian beers). The aroma is fairly rich, malty and hoppy, with a definite hint of caramel. The flavour is similar, not watery though not particularly flavoursome - golden hops with a touch of malt. The aftertaste is similar, with a metallic tang I presume from the alcohol. Good, probably the best Thai beer Iíve had.

Probably not worth the money. Purs nicely into my official Singha glass, who knows where that came from. I canít comment on the quality of the "100% barley malt," but it has more heft than BMC and certainly more balance. Nice crisp hoppy finish reminds me of a Helles. Very refreshing, and the 6% is dangerous. Iím usually about frou deep before I realize it.

Iíve had gallons of this stuff, since anything else is hard to get in most of Thailand. Itís brightly carbonated, smells good and has a decent flavor and aroma. Much better on draft, but a cold bottle of Bia Sing goes cools off those hot Thai afternoons in the rainy season.

12oz bottle at Benjarong restaurant, Monroe WA. Pale golden. Standard lager aroma but surprisingly not one-dimensional flavour. Even manages a noticeable hop finish. First Oriental beer Iíve had that was actually worth a damn. Itís also worth noting that I did have some reasonably spicy Thai food to drink this with.

Bottle. Clear yellow coloured with a white head. Light skunky aroma with notes of malts and fruits. Flavour of fruits, malts, corn and hops. Hoppy finish.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2006 Clear golden-yellow with a small white head. Grainy, sweet aroma. Crisp flavor with some bitterness. Medium-bodied with a somewhat bitter finish. Though this isnít a really awesome beer, I actually really like it.

Bottle 0,33l. Almost yellow colour. A large white head. Oily inpression. Sweet, but almost no taste or aftertaste.
