COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A premium lager beer brewed from the finest ingredients, Singha is a full-bodied 100% barley malt beer that is distinctively rich in taste with strong hop characters. Brewed with three hops: Saaz, Perle and Hallertau. Editor’s Note: Recipe scaled down from 6% to 5% in 2007.

A very unpleasant beer, more reminicent of a malt-liquor. Putrid skunky smell, has quite a strong alcoholic flavor, quite bitter. Strange chemical taste to it. Not good any way you look at it.

This pale, gold colored lager pours with a brief, creamy head and with an aroma that opens up like fresh-baked bread. I wanted to like this beer so much more than I actually did. The taste was below average pilsner-ish, a little flat and even a little skunky, like canteen water. There was a bitterness and presence of hops but quantity doesn't always mean quality. It does, I suppose, pair well with spicy Thai or Maylaysian foods which saves a little face, but I just wish this was a better beer!

Native Thai bottle--drank it there. Singha is the standard of Thai Brewing Arts. That being said, Singha sucks. The alcohol level is intimidating--somewhere between 5 and 8%. They don't even seem to know because their brewing practices are medieval. Boon Rahd Brewery, which brews a lot of other crappy beers (mostly european beers under license) doesn't seem to have a grip on just what brewing is. Maybe they don't refridgerate their shit, I don't know, but it's universally skunky, phenolic, and nasty. Nose is full of off-aromas--like this beer was stored for two years in a basement (In Bangkok that's 75 degrees). Head is thin and white, but vanishes soon after you pour. The color is a nice light golden brown. The first taste is one of lemon peel, cider, plastics and cabbage. Holy Crap this stuff is bad! But then, I only had one moderately good beer in all of Thailand.

Light, sparkling, nice white head. Flowery, notes of malt in nose. Medium body, bit dry, smooth. Moderately bitter, sweet. Bitter, pretty long finish.

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2008 Had this at a Thai restaurant. Served Very cold. Smell of spice and hops. Looks like a urine sample once the head disappears. Flavor started out OK, but metallic/alcohol aftertaste got worse as I drank and the beer got a little warmer. Couldn’t finish this one.

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2003 This beer pours as a clear, light golden brew topped with an eggshell white head that dissipates at an average speed. It has a sweet aroma that I can't completely identify but I think it's a mixture of alcohol and malt. There is an acidic nature to this beer that I don't entirely agree with but it does have a respectable hop finish that I like. The first time I tried this beer I didn't think much of it but after a few samplings I have developed a taste for it. Goes great with both Vietnamese and Thai food and is probably best enjoyed alongside a spicy meal. Good alcohol content for such a light tasting beer. Wouldn't go out of my way for it but when out for Thai food I'd order a Singha if it was available.

Light yellow appearance with thin head. Aroma was moderately alcoholic and slightly skunky. First taste was alcoholic but 2nd had some malt to it. Slight bitterness and a little metallic.
