2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 phaleslu (3178) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - FEB 23, 2010
12 oz. bottle from Ambar, an Indian restaurant in Cincinnati. I always assumed I’d have it at a Thai restaurant, but the Thai place by me is too expensive so I doubt I’ll eat at one anytime soon. Anyway, this pours a clear gold color with a small white head. Aroma of corn, pale and barley malts, grains, straw, and a little bit of hops. The flavor stays pretty faithful to the nose- corny, grainy, and light. Nothing offensive in this one, which is nice, as some odd things can show up in foreign lagers sometimes. Light bodied, with average to low carbonation and a quick, dry finish. Light and refreshing, and you could do worse.
1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 gyllenbock (1608) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 23, 2010
Bottle in Thailand during some visits in that lovely coutry.
Golden with a white head.
Quite sweet malty and grassy aroma. Some grass in the thin and dry flavor. Ok to hot food and as a thirst-quencher in the warm weather.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 asheft (2030) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 17, 2010
[bottle--a couple months past sell by date]
Unpleasant cardboardy urine aroma. Clear brown-gold with short-lived, white foam. Unpleasant cardboard flavour that is with some detectable rancid hops and balanced on the sweet side. Light body, moderate carbonation, sweet cardboard finish.
2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Damico (1222) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 15, 2010
Not much aroma, some vague sweet notes from the barley. The color is light straw yellow and completely transparent with almost no head. The flavor is a crisp clear lager - barley and bubbly from the bottom fermentation. Perfect for climbing waterfalls on a hot day in Thailand.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 thekmoonlegend (115) - Lynn, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 12, 2010
Poured golden with white head that went away quickly as expected. Smelled like a typical pale lager, with a hint of barley and soapiness. Good level of carbonation. Very smooth and drinkable, slight bitterness and a dry crisp finish. Very drinkable and light. I would have this again, probably during the summer.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 pkbites (478) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 11, 2010
Bottle from 3 Cellars in Franklin, Wisconsin. Slightly darker yellow pour than the average macro gives. White head is fluffy and long lasting with oodles of lacing on the glass. Dry, malty aroma with some dead flowers mixed in. The flavor is all over the freaking place: Grainy, sour, metallic, malty, floral, with some bitter hops in the background. It’s not that this tastes bad, but it can’t seem to make up it’s mind what direction it wants to take. A very confused brew at that.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 jimmay (702) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 9, 2010
330 ml bottle. Pours golden in colour, with decent white head. Aroma is soapy, sweet. Taste, similar. Decent.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Stew41 (1412) - Woodend, AUSTRALIA - FEB 7, 2010
As per most beers of this style hard to make many enlightening comments. Malts are clearly on the stale adjunct side of things and there’s a hardness through the palate I can’t really place; almost sour dough-like (and that’s being generous).
