"Blasphemy! They cried when the idea of blending the super-charged bitterness of an IPA with the darkness of a Stout was debuted. Of course we thought it was a cool idea.

bottle @ Rattle ’N’ Hum. Black color, small head. Taste is a bit smokey, roasted malts, dry, very bitter. Missing a fruity aftertaste here although beer is nicely balanced.

Draught @ The Ginger Man, NYC. Pours cloudy black with creamy tan head. Clear aroma of roast, caramel malt, hops and coffee. Bitter and roasty onset, giving way to sweetish malty notes, ending on a coffeelike note. A really good blackie.

@ Singlecut. Pours black with khaki head. Aroma of roasted malts with a faint hop presence in there as well. Taste brings some acidic roast followed by piney hops. Average palate. Finish is roasty and piney bitter. Would have liked this a fair bit more if it was less acidic. I think this has promise.

Pine Box Rock Shop, Brooklyn tap ($6): Pours black with a beige-tan head. Aroma is pine, chocolate, rez, and roasted malts. Taste is your pretty standard middle of the road Black IPA. Everything is in balance. Nice bitter hops with pine and even a bit of citrus, but not in a west coast way. Malt backbone is prominent, but not overpowering. Nice and sessionable, but also very substantial and satisfying

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2013 Draft at Brouwerij Lane with Clockwork and Joel. Pours a deep black body with thin off white lacing. Aroma is super fresh pine, resin and light roast. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of cocoa, fresh pine, resin, pine needles, and bitter grapefruit. Very nice.

Draft at the growler NYC. Pours a deep black color. More malts then hops. Taste is like a porter but very drinkable . Good one ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
