3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 skortila (4166) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - NOV 7, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 26, 2004 Spicy, malty/coffee aroma with fruits. Dark brown coloured; cloudy. Creamy, off-white and lasting head. Superb appearance! Taste is very smooth malty sweet with some sourness. Dry, smooth palate. Indeed a quite decent flavor-rich beer!
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 omhper (17561) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - OCT 8, 2003
Bottled. Dark ruby and very lively with rich firm head. Fruity and strikingly vinous and a vague hint of lactic acid. Medium bodied with balanced sweetnes and light, sparkling mouthfeel. Some toffee and a lot of dry, well wooded red wine in the finish. Deliciously flavourful.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 bierkoning (9039) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - MAY 14, 2003
Ruby brown color, small head. Malty mangoaroma. Just a bit soapy and rather thin. Mango fruit flavor with a hint of apple sourness, some coffee and caramel. Good lacing, some alcohol present. Not all Belgian strong ales are great.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 OlJuntan64 (1266) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 21, 2002
Murky amber with huge tan lasting frothy head. Big sour malty and fainter yeasty aroma with too much alcohol coming through on warming. Way over carbonated, sweet malty and raw alcoholic. Tastes like an early attempt at a home brew.
1.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 Kåstå (1274) - Mol, BELGIUM - AUG 21, 2002
Dark milky with a medium head. A sour malty aroma with a hint of spice and smoke. When tasting the first thing that strikes you is that the beer is way too carbonated. It has a harsh taste. There is an unpleasant side taste to the bitterness. The alcohol is very obvious.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jbrus (4992) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - JUL 3, 2002
UPDATED: MAR 30, 2006 re-rate, bottled, blind tasting session: Fruity aroma with redberries, raspberries and a hint of glue. Ruby color, hazy, beige fine head, good lace. Increasing sweetness, light fruity sourness, blackberries, dark malts, little sticky. Moving these Sinpalsken beers to Van Steenberge didn’t do it much good I’m afraid. Although this one is still quite nice, it’s not how it used to be. July, 2002, bottled, 4.0: Fruity prune and tangerine aroma. Hazy, red/brown, large off-white frothy head, good lace. Full, light sweet, fruity, prune. Very full and light sparklig finish.
